Ok, I'm slightly freaking out... I've had the mini for about a month now but something strange is happening and I'm not sure why. Today I fired it up and the tone of the mini just blew me away. It has progressively sounded better to me every time I have fired it up. This has never happened to me. Usually I have a honeymoon period and then get "used" to how good an amp sounds but I swear my mini is morphing before my eyes (or should I say ears) I can't figure out if it is just me getting used to the 8 inch speaker, or if the speaker and amp needed to break in a little, or if I'm just going a bit loopy I called my producer and said "check this out" and played him one of his own tunes over the phone. He was like "What the hell is that" and when I told him he could not believe it. He was like "You've got to be joking?" So my question is... Has anyone else experienced this "mini phenomenon" or does anyone have any answers as to why my mini has gone from good to great to phenomenal! Maybe it's just settling in to the Southern Hemisphere! After 17 years as a professional player, I thought my ears were pretty good, but now I'm seriously wondering if it's all in my head or if it is actually sounding better. Maybe this is something that happens with combo's as this is the first one I have ever owned. (If you can call it a combo!) Who knows, I guess it doesn't matter as I am just loving plugging in and being blown away by 5 watts! Too bloody cool. ;D

I think it has something to do with the toilet water swirling backwards down yonder ;^)
My mini sounds better all the time too !

Ah yes, I'm wondering what might happen if I get it converted to 240volts? With that and the toilet water it's anyone's guess!

Maybe it is that the speaker is good an broken in now.

I have wondered if the internal speaker would change much once it was broken in. I suppose this contributes to my thinking that a Mini with a broken in speaker should sound even better.

My Mini got better & better as I played it. It must be the speaker breaking in. That 8" speaker works wonders for that amp. I really love the tone of the Mini, but I can't seem to capture that same sound on a recording. Maybe I should use something other than a SM57?

You guys are piquing my curiosity about the Mini-Z. Great for the living room or as a productive alternative to just watching television. I sit with my acoustic some nights and mimic the scores of the drama series-- whatever's on. It's really helped my note articulation. There'd be more texture available with some tube distortion at hand. Would be great for travel, too. A Mini would slide nicely beside the suitcase on weekend getaways. Now that there are three of us instead of two, the stroller sits in the amp space in the vehicle.

It will work wonders.

Today's guitars, amps and speakers are too good for the 57 IMO. Save them for snare drums and door stops. To capture everything your Z puts out use condensers. And experiment with mic placement. You don't play with your ear pressed against the grille cloth so maybe there's a better way, eh?
