I was curious if the Doctor had ever considered a smaller version of the Mini? Maybe a 2 watt head? I've heard good things about the Z.Vex Nano Head, it's a 1/2 watt tube amp head designed to be pushed all the way. I have considered getting a Mini, but I find it's still too loud for a bedroom. I love my Mazerati, for clean sounds, and with an overdrive pedal, but it's way too loud for me to turn it up past 9:00. It would be awesome to have a bedroom amp head to practice with and crank up. I know that the Mini was designed for these reasons, and yet many people are gigging with it. Unfortunately it's just too loud for some applications.

It is a loud little guy, much louder than I ever thought it would be. I don't think I can even turn it up past 10 before my cats want to die and my shelves shake. I put a Svetlana 12AX7 in mine to keep it clean and I just use my pedals for overdrive. I'm a living room warrior, but I still dream of getting my Mini Z turned into a head and placing it on a Z-Best... I think the one knob and the big jewel light would look so rad sitting on top of that beast.

I'd buy a mini head. Immediately.
I'm *really* picky about my speakers!

Hey guys, the mini IS small enough to use as a head. Sits very nicely on a Z-Best 2x12 and sounds great through it. It has the 1/4 inch speaker jack so you can plug it into any speaker cab you want. This is a great feature. Its so portable I don't see the point of making it a head, although I'm sure it would look cool. Also I agree, the Nano is a great product and probably has the 1/2 watt head market covered. If the mini is too loud you can always play it clean (8:00-9:00) and use a boost or overdrive pedal for minimum volume dirt.

I have been wanting a Mini-Z in head format ever since I first saw the Mini. I know that Z would sell a ton of them. Hopefully Z will consider making a run of them.

I pay 200 to 250 for a Mini Z head shell if the good Dr. would make one.

As small and compact as the Mini Z is ... just unplug the internal speaker and use the amp on top of any cab as a head.

I really like that 8" Weber. I think it along with the cab is one of the main reasons that the Mini sounds so good.

I agree Bama, I've tried my mini through both of my Z 1x12 cabs...it sounds better to me through the stock speaker/cab, I'll leave the 1x12's to the Ghia and Z/28.

I agree that it already works well as a head. Looks and sounds fantastic sitting atop my new handwired Marshall 2061cx cab. I need to do more A/Bing to decide which way I like better... there is a definate charm to the small-box rawness of the stock setup.

I've played a Mini-Z through a Z 2x10. Sounded great. When I owned my Mini-Z I took the chassis out of the cab to see if I would be able to build a head shell for it. From what I remember it was a rather simple design to implement as a head shell. I *think* I took measurements as well. Maybe it's time to buy another Mini-Z and build myself a head shell for it after all.....

Hey Prowler, I would love to see a photo if you do a Mini Head.

foxx... I am going to buy another Mini-Z this week. I'll see if I can find the measurements. If not, I'll take them again and start to build out a Mini-Z head shell. I can't say for sure how long it will take me to build but as soon as it's done I'll post pics. Maybe I'll use some sort of exotic wood...

Excellent. I can't wait to see it. However please remember when finishing it, the Wild Nauga is critically endangered.
Thank you.
