I'm venturing into some new Z territory. I bought Kidbronze's (formerly Benttop's) Mazerati GT. He's going to ship it out this coming Tuesday. I'll hopefully get it by Friday. That'll give me a day to get acquainted w/ it, and maybe use it for a gig next Saturday.
So, to you GT owners, what am I getting here? I've watched the video on Doc's site. I've seen a few more on You-Tube. I've listened to a whole lot of clips in the Sounds section of the Forum. I like what I'm hearing and seeing. I currently have both Jr.s. I find myself needing a BB+ in front of my MAZ Jr NR to get some of the dirtier sounds I need. My RXJr seems just about perfect. I was looking into something w/ a little more power/wattage then the Jr.s. And I was looking for something that could get a little hotter. I figured I needed either a Mazerati GT (I'm quite fond of the EL-84 tubes) or a SRZ-65. I'd let fate decide and just wait for the right deal. Well, fate said Mazerati GT. When I got my Jr.s, they sounded much better in person then they did in the clips and videos. Will the GT provide me w/ a similar experience?
What kinds of music are you GT owners using your amps for? Everything I've read has it leaning toward the hotter raunchier stuff. But I've also heard some amazing clean clips from some of you.
This is going to be a long grueling wait. Please let me know about some of your experiences w/ this amp to make my wait even worse. ;D
Also, Steve, are/were you the original owner of this amp? I thought I read somewhere that Curt may have been the first to own this particular GT.

Oh yes my friend, in spite of some nice clips and recordings the mighty GT will rock ya in person!! Big time amp with mondo volume and guts, .... i dont think you'll want for any more power/volume. It comes on strong all at once, as the volume knob is a bit like an on off switch, and beyond about 10:00 setting it simply saturates more but is already as loud as it gets. It is glorious though, and ya just have to get to know your guitars volume knob and it's all right there. I dont know how Doc did it but the amp almost doesn't "feel" like El 84's, it IS very touch sensitive, but does not compress and squish down like you'd expect when you lay into it, which IMHO makes it an EXCELLENT stage amp. Kinda feels more like 34's or 6l6's in a way, but has the sound of the 84's. Congrats i think you'll dig it!

Congrats! Let me know when it comes in: I'll open up the window and listen for it Thanks Dustin! I'm stoked! I'm already stocking up on earplugs from work in case it comes in before I get an attenuator.

I guess it's coming earlier then I thought... I checked UPS tracking this morning and it showed today as the delivery date, and that it is "out for delivery." I figured Friday at the earliest! How convenient, I'm off today! ;D "Has anyone seen the Air Brake? Now where's that confounded Air Brake?"

She arrived around 4:00. I didn't have a lot of time to mess w/ her as my son had a school function we attended this evening. I did get 'er fired up for a little bit... She's LOUD! And all that stuff about the volume knob going from off to loud w/ nothing in between is all true. I was impressed w/ the cleans. I was really impressed w/ the singing sustain as you get up to noonish w/ the volume. Steve talked about being able to hold and work a note w/ this amp like no other. I see what he means. The sustain is amazing. It really sings. The tone knob is a little different then what I'm used to. Bright is to the left and dark is to the right. I don't know if I'm describing it properly, but that's what it seems like. I can't mess w/ it any more tonight as the wife and kids headed up to bed. I'm supposed to get the Air Brake tomorrow. Hopefully that will give me more time to mess w/ it after everyone goes to bed. This thing seems like one hell of an amp! ;D

Awesome man! ..... Yep it's a GREAT rock amp, classic etc, ..... Actually the tone knob is really more of a "cut" knob, hence the kinda reverse logic. I think you'll really dig it with the airbrake! I find to be one of, if not the best Z to use wit the brake. Just remember if your not familiar with the airbrake, it's not really a bedroom at midnight kinda thing. In fact i always say that to me it's more of a stage tool to just shave off a "little" volume in steps to accomodate for say a small club and/or not many body's present to soak up some volume. And then as the night goes on ya can click it up a notch or two, to counter some of the high end hearing loss that happens. It does give ya a cool compressed sound tho in bedroom mode that would probably record pretty well! - Enjoy man, & give us more of ur impressions!

I was hoping to get 'er out on a gig this past Saturday, but I just wasn't feeling comfortable enough w/ it yet. It was a game time decision, and I went w/ the old reliable MAZ Jr NR. I have, however, spent a little more time w/ her. It's an amazing amplifier. The OD on this thing is to-die-for! It's everything I wanted in a hotter amp. The first few days I only ran buckers through it. They really pushed the amp in a nice way. When I rolled the volume knob back on my bucker equipped guitars, however, I wasn't real happy w/ the clean sound. It was like someone threw a blanket over the amp. It lost it's crispness. This may have more to do w/ my guitar's volume pots. Although, I don't get the same effect w/ my MAZ Jr NR and my RXJr. They sound just as good w/ the volume rolled back. When I set the amp up clean, volume knob below 10:00, it sounds good w/ buckers. The tube compliment it came w/ is: Mullard 12AX7 GT 12AX7 JJ EL-84s Sovtek 5AR4 I'm going to try swapping the 12AX7s to see if changing the position of these little guys might improve the guitar-volume-rolled-back clean sound. Another thing... I tried my Strat through it today. WOW! This amp likes my Strat! I've never heard my Strat sound so good... There are no issues w/ the rolled back clean sound when I use the Strat (which has me thinking guitar volume pots again... ). I haven't tried my P90 equipped Bluesbird through it yet. The way she likes the Strat single coils, I'm kind of looking forward to the Guild P90s. ;D Speaker-wise, I don't like the AlNiCo Weber Blue Pups w/ it. They can't handle this amp. They just fart out. The wattage should be OK. They're 30 watts each, and I run them as a pair. The Blues have no dope. The AlNiCo Silver 10s sound pretty good. They too are 30 watts each, but they have light doping which I think helps them not be so loose. So far, I like it best w/ the ceramic Weber 1225 & 1230. I'd like to hear it w/ some higher rated speakers... maybe a Vin 30 or something. Other then the humbucker equipped guitar-volume-knob-roll-back issue, I can't really find fault in her. It sounds great. Here's a pic:

Glad you're liking it. I just needed something with a little more control over the gain and volume. I won't say anything other than "Superdrive 30", but it's a far different flavor. My Maz 38 and Ghia are still my go to boxes though.
