Hi all,
I just found the forum and have some questions....
I am seeking a new amp as my current amp (Fender Hot Rod Deluxe) is just too loud for home use. It gives lovely cleans but you cannot drive it hard and loud enough to get any break up and whilst it does have the gain channel that is not the best.
So I am looking for something that will give nice cleans and I can drive at home for some nice bluesy sounds through into the British crunch sound for 70s rock. I know you have to get sound volume on an amp and I can handle that I just can't justify to family and neighbours running new Gig levels at home.....
Anyone care to help me out???

IMHO, FWIW, etc........... ;D
There are some clean tones in the Mini, but not too many. It really shines when you crank it up (volume between 12:00 - 3:00). The attenuator works very well for keeping the volume down when you need to. I'd say give it a try, it's easily one of the most satisfying small amps on the market, and priced right, too.

The Mini will give crunch for sure and some clean (I call it my "instant Rock Star" amp)... it's great for home and studio and gigs where you can get away with it... but with humbuckers, my clean my be your dirt, so I'd go for a Ghia, RxJr. or a MazJr and add a BrakeLite. Any of these will be good enough for gigging with a band too. If you're not doing band playing the Mini may be the right thing though.
Going from a Fender HRD to any Dr. Z Amps will be a huge difference. Hang around the forums and read the past posts and you'll get a Dr. Z Amps degree in no time. There's lots of great information floating around here. If you're not in a hurry start reading and make a good decision for your FIRST Z-Amp... but be careful as once you get one, they seem to multiply.

Thanks guys I will have a look through the threads etc. I take it the Brakelite works well with the Ghia?

I love my Mini, I had a Ghia but sold it to get a Maz Jr with reverb. I never connected with the Ghia for some reason. The only thing I do not like about my Mini is that it is not Surf Green. ;D Check out the Maz Jr, I read somewhere on here that it should be everyone's first Z.

I have a older mini combo. It is a great amp but do yourself a favor and try a Maz Jr NR with a brakelite or an Airbrake. It is the most versatile finest amp I have ever played through. Just MHO. Welcome! PS: What ever "Z" you get you will not be disappointed.

I recently bought my first Z and chose the RxJr for the same reasons you mentioned. After reading many posts on Z-Talk and a few PMs to members, I decided to get the RxJr. Great cleans, gets dirty/cleans up with the guitar volume pot, and the master volume is great for allowing breakup at home volumes. If I want more dirt I just toss a HBE Power Screamer in front of the amp. Sounds great with the Dr Z 2-12 Celestian Blues. Good luck in your decision. Cheers, Steve Z
