I finally bought an airbrake and had a chance to play my Mazerati head cranked.
I like the amp between 1 and 2 oclock the most and think this is where the good Dr. voiced the amp for it's optimum sound. In this range the amp has super spank and clarity. The overdrive and sustain is well focused here.
With Les Paul Deluxe(mini humbuckers). I like the volume between 1 oclock and 2 oclock the best. Very classic rock sounding. In fact, I found that I'm using my Les Paul a lot since having the airbrake. I can't get enough of this tone. I can volume boost with my OD pedal to drive the amp harder. What I found is if I do boost it more like that I'll back off my volume knob on the guitar to 8 and this gives me a cleaner singier tone that I love.
With stock USA Strat: Very classic sounding strat tones to be had. Lots of snap and spank. All pickup selections gives me different classic strat tones. I like 2 oclock the best as my strat has lighter output pickups.
Overall the amp is great for clean, overdriven sound that maintains clarity of all the strings. For classic rock and blues, it's a dream come through for my playing style. Another thing I noticed was after 10-15 minutes of playing the amp sounded smoother and creamier. My tubes were creating a nice chimney of heat out the top of the head when this happened. I guess El84's sound better hot.
I never owned a Tele, but after hearing my strat at 1oclock, I can imagine the spank and snap a tele would make. Makes me want to buy a tele and play some open G tuned Stones!
For me, the airbrake made my tone quest dreams possible.
