Greetings!
Yesterday I wanted to try out cranking my Mazerati. I never did so due to the volume. So, I set my 1x12 cab back against my bed and draped a thick blanket on the front . I plugged my strat in with a volume boost pedal. Oh, the tone knob was set at 3pm.
Here is what I observed and maybe some of you can share your opinions.
This amp really rocks in an old school type of way. All the way cranked and the otherwise clean Mazerati turned into a nice rocking machine! It still has touch sensitivity and not so much compression as one might expect. With my volume boost, my lead tones were long lasting and still very dynamic to pick attack and fingering nuances. However, I found it difficult to clean up the tone and had to roll back the volume on my strat pretty far.
Next, I set the volume at 3pm. I like this setting the best. For one, it's a bit quieter on the noise level than when the amp is cranked. Also, it's easier to roll off the guitar volume and clean up. I also found my tone a bit more complex here and still could get a good driving lead tone with my volume pedal.
My Mazerati is basically clean up to 1pm or so. I'm glad I found out this amp rocks. I've been using distortion pedals for the high gain stuff but I always missed the real tube drive that only a cranked amp has.
I have an attenuator(Z brake) on order so soon I'll be able to enjoy my Mazerati more at lower volumes. I'll take it out to jams with the attenuator as well.
Well, that's all folks! Don't forget to hug your Mazerati!

I cranked mine just yesterday. Through one Weber Blue Dog in an open back cab it's very loud but manageable.
Only when wife and baby are out of the house ;D
See my post on "Mazerati Breakup" which I'll be posting in a bit.

I just got my Rati and at first hated the sound of it 's break up (anything past 1pm). This amp changes so much because of speaker selection. I played a two 12 open back cab with Vintage 30's and just found it OK. I just ordered an old ZBest 212 with Weber P12Z's (essentially 30 watt Silver Bells) and I can't wait. I think it will act much better with a more effecient speaker configuration. It sounds great through my '70's Marshall 412 with rola celestions.
I've also found that if you want some classic Townshend tone, roll the tone knob to about 8 or 9 o' clock and then turn up the amp. Sounds like a HiWatt to me.

Yes! I love my Mazerati cranked. Actually, I love my Mazerati all over the range of the controls. It's staggering the variety of sounds you can get out of this two-knob amp.
Down low, the cleans are beautiful and the low end response is great for an EL84-based amp. Raising the volume gives you Beatles-esque tones and nice vintage breakup. Above 1:30 or so you get some Hiwatt kinds of chime, so Fly By Night and Closer to the Heart sound more like the records. From 3:00 to full up with a Strat, you get great Communication Breakdown and Funk #49 sounds -- the best Funk #49 tone I've ever played with.
It's like a whole different amp with my Les Paul and its somewhat too hot humbuckers. For one thing, if I'm going to turn the amp above about 10:00, I unplug the internal G12H-30 and use an external cabinet, because the speaker breakup is pretty scary (I don't want to blow such a beautiful-sounding speaker). The Mazerati is a pretty ballsy rock amp with beefy humbuckers. It definitely will get into Hiwattish - AC/DCish - almost plexi-ish tones. What's cool about it is that it maintains a kind of clarity amongst the distortion that I haven't heard from any of the plexi reproductions I've played with (I've never played with a vintage plexi). My favorite plexi repro now sounds a little on the trashy, gritty side to me after my ears have begun being rewired by the Mazerati.
As I said, I'm astounded and delighted by the great tone and versatility of this amp.

I just swapped out my 5AR4 for a SS rectifier. The Rati is now more tight, less sag. I can't detect too much tone change, it seems to be less full in the low end and the attack is faster.
