JK Hey guys I have no intention of ditching my JR..Love it. I just have a opportunity to pick up a Vox Night Train for Dealer cost.
Even though that's dirt cheap I am wondering if anyone has played through one or could tell me if it would be compatible to A?B with my JR. Or is it to similar to my Jr.. from the tone stand point.
Like I said I can get one cheap enough but money is money..no sense to waste it

Tonally, I think they would be similar, but not THAT close. I haven't played one myself either, but, after reading the description on the Vox site I don't think it would hold a candle to the RXJR. First of all, there's no ef86 which is what really gives the RXJR most of it's voice. Plus, it's gotta be a PC board amp, not handwired. Not that all PCB amps are bad, but PTP wiring DOES make a difference, imo.
If it were me, I'd either pick it up and sell it for a profit or keep it as a backup juuust in case........ On second thought, scratch that. Chances are it would have a problem before the Z would. ;D
I honestly don't think that there would be that big of a difference between them to AB them. The RXJR will probably cover all the ground that the Vox covers and then some.
If I were to buy it and flip it, I'd take the money from it and buy more NOS tubes, or put the money towards getting another Z. JMO, YMMV.........
How cheap are you talking? If you don't wanna say that's fine. I just thought I'd ask. That would make a difference for me too.....

I'd get it just to play around on, figure out if it's nice or not, and maybe sell it for profit No but seriously, maybe keep it around for practice when you don't want to burn the tubes in the RxJr. And maybe you could hook it up in stereo with the Jr if you have an effect or an ABY box.. stereo always sounds better. -eric

If it is PCB I'd hold off. Z's are hardwired with really nice components. Is the Vox made in China or England? Just not sure it's worth it even if it's dealer cost.

Reguardless, I got a call yesterday to come down and check out some new G&L's that just came into a small local shop and they are also a Vox dealer. I saw they had one of these shiney silver boxes so i had to check it out.
Not bad. I would say it's right up Vox's line, but in NO WAY did I feel that it was equal to or above my RxJr. Not clean or dirty. No way!!!
Your Crazy if you trade down for the Vox.
