I plan on picking up a RX Jr. 1X12 combo as soon as I can settle on a speaker. Sadly I'd say 50% of my time playing this RX Jr. is going to be at bedroom/apt levels so I want to pick a speaker that's gonna give me some great, tight low end but still have all the sparkle I know this amp has. I'm also going to be staying in the clean to edge of clean sounds if that helps narrow down the speaker choice. Maybe I'm worrying too much but I'd love to hear some opinions on 'tone' and low volume playing. Hopefully they aren't mutually exclusive.
Thanks ;D

The Greenback is a great speaker with it and it is less efficient than most of the other Celestions. If this is a new amp, that is probably your best choice as you can only get Celestions. But bedroom levels - I don't know about that. You have to get to a certain level for any speaker to sound good. On the plus side, the RxJr is one of the best at maintaining good tone at low volume and still sounding good.

Hi DB. Welcome to the forum. I use my Rx Jr with either a Celestion G12h, a Vintage 30, or a Weber Blue Dog, as a 1x12 or 2x12 combination and they can sound great at lower volumes because of the wonderful Master Volume this amp has. I guess it has to do with what a persons own idea of bedroom level is - and if anyone else is home at the time , but even still, the amp sounds great to me with those speakers. Humbuckers will get you there quicker naturally, but single coils sound wonderful as well.

So your ordering the amp and wanting to know what speaker. The Blue is great and with the MV you can get it to work, but the Blue is pretty loud speaker with a high DB rating of 100db. The Greenback that comes in the RxJr is a 98db and might be ever so slightly different, but the Heritage G12M or the EVH speaker is 96db and is not as loud which would allow you to get into the amp slightly more.
While the MV works great and surely gets you into great sounding OD sound at nice levels. The outstanding clean tones you need to push the amp alittle bit more and that is where a low db speaker will come in handy.
The EVH speakers can be had much cheaper than the Heritage G12m and it's the same speaker.

I just picked up an Rx Jr and was wondering about this EVH or G12M speaker choice. Right now I have an Eminence Legend GB12 in an Avatar open back 112 (oversided). I tend to find the bass is a little flubby for my taste when I crank the master up above 4-5. Would the EVH or G12H have the same problem since the Eminence is based on that speaker? Dropping 4 dbs off the volume sounds pretty tempting but I don't want to bother if the bass isn't going to tighten up with this speaker. I've also played the Rx through an Reinhardt RH65 (Celestion ET65 clone) and my 2x12 closed back with V30s. It sounds much better through either of those.

I don't know. Is it only when you rocking out heavey? Maybe with humbuckers?
Open back cab might be part to blame. Tring to squeeze more bass to make up for what the cab is missing.

I use a C blue in mine. That's a good speaker that doesn't need to be pushed hard to get the full speaker benefit. I recently purchased an H30 and it sounds assume along with the Blue. Keep in mind a v30 is a bright speaker H30 is more Bass sounding. Docs 2 x10's are really nice. According to the Docs video. The speaker you chose should be based on the Music you play. The video is fun to watch all the Celeb's - But what the DR. says is the most informative. Watch it

Decided to go with a Scumback M75 and get a J-Design closed back cabinet. That seems to have resolved my problem. It also takes a little bit of volume out of this monster so that's always a good thing for my hearing.
