Not really a versus question per se... I have a Ghia and a late '90s Maz 38 Studio Lead. I LOVE the Ghia and since the Mazerati has been described as being a bigger, louder Ghia, I'd like to ask how accurate a description this is? I love the Studio Lead, but if I could get a higher power Ghia I'd probably be all over it and sell the SL. How does the Mazerati stack up as a bigger, similar sounding amp to the Ghia?

Hey tj, go to www.guitaramplifierblueprinting.com/ and look at Myles' info on the Mazerati. He clearly states that they are not the same amp. I have a Mazerati, and it doesn't really break up too much. I use P-90's and I can strum lightly with all volumes on 10, and it's very clean. Yet, a harder pick gets gritty, but not as much as the Ghia.

I'm really enjoying the Ghia's simplicity, and there's been no sign of that letting up after a spring and summer's worth of weekly gigging. I'm not so concerned with breakup on the amp (I'm using either a mutant Mesa cab with a Blue and a Texas Heat or a Z Best with a Heat and a Celestion 12H30) as I am with a simple, pure tone that I can slam with the pedals I have. If it's generally in the ballpark of the Ghia, I may have to start looking around...
It sounds though that while it obviously has its differences, it IS generally in that playing field. I never get to play in situations loud enough to even come close to opening up the CG, even at festivals, so it may even be overkill. May be best to keep the 38 for the FX loop and some different flavors...
