With that subject line i can hear the weed jokes already...
anyways, i've started a tele build project and i'm looking into getting a callaham pre-wired control plate assembly. it comes with 250k pots, but 500k pots are availible on request. what difference would there be between the 250k & 500k?

Well, I'm no expert, but i think you will probably want to use different pot values depending on the pickups you go with. I know in single coil applications 250 k pots are usually used. Les Pauls usually have 500 K pots. So, if you are going with the traditional single coil tele layout then 250 is probably the way to go. As far as why... someone else i'm sure can elaborate more.
hope that helps some.

250K pots help to hold down the high frequencies, they are usually used with strat/tele type single coils so they are not too shrill sounding.
500K pots let more of the highs through, used mainly with humbuckers and P90's.
There are exceptions to every rule according to guitar and pickup choices, but this is a starting point.

Ask the guys at Callaham what they recommend and ask what SD recommends and what TV Jones recommends. You can usually get a fairly fast response. Also ask here like you are doing. Gonna do any out of phase wiring? Do you know if you are getting a 2 wire or 4 wire powertron? Stuff to consider before you buy your harness.
off hand I'd say a 250k on the bridge and a 500K on the neck, but I don't know much about the BG1400.

Thanks for all the input so far. Right now I'm just gonna have a 3 way switch and not worry about doing any coil tapping.
also, its a standard tele control plate so its only 1 volume and 1 tone

In addition to Bluzman, I would like to add calling the folks at Lollar. The majority of my guitars are home to Lollar pups(single coil and Humbuckers). Jason highly recommends using 500K pots. I have had fabulous results in doing so. Bottom line is try both 250K and 500K. The 500K with be a touch brighter. You can always use the tone pot to attenuate the highs a bit. I have had great results using a Sozo .002 with 100K resistor for treble maintenance with a smooth taper as well as a Sozo .047 for tone cap. Rick

You'll probably get no response from the original poster (kjv02) here as he hasn't participated on this forum in 3 years, and this thread is almost 10 years old...... in other words, it's a "zombie thread" .....
OBTW, welcome to the forum!
