First of all, let me state that the good doctor has made it abundantly clear that the brake lite is designed to be mounted in a COMBO, so this is not a complaint at all, but will hopefully answer some questions that you guys might be having (like I was).
That being said...I was a little disappointed when I got my cab in yesterday because my BL wouldn't mount in it like I hoped it would. There are a couple of key differences in a combo and the openback cab to be aware of. The first is that the tapered ends of the top and bottom panel of the cab, do not leave enough room for the BL. I could see the difference in the pictures and was already prepared to do a little cutting on the panels to make them work. However, the one thing that I couldn't tell from the pictures is that there is a lip on the edge of the cab that is not on the combo. This makes it practically impossible to mount it correctly (that is to say, as it is designed to be mounted), although I guess you could mount one side to the lip, and install a filler piece between the other side and the cabinet wall (It would get a little crowded back there).
Anyway...my decision at this point was to remove the bottom panel and to mount the BL directly onto it. I wish I would've taken pictures, but here's a rough sketch (Sorry, my iPhone and POS work computer are all I have to work with right now. And those are speakers by the way, children )...
So overall I'm satisfied with the result. I think there should still be enough ventilation for any heat released from the BL, although I really dont seem to notice any. The hard wire, reaches the amp out (just barely). As long as you're comfortable operating the dial by memory, you're good to go. Hope this helps!
