I have an original Prescription RX and I love this amp ... I've been having some problems with it though lately. Here's what's happening:
A few weeks ago I turned my amp on and blew a fuse within a few minutes of playing time. After changing out a couple of fuses, pulling and swapping tubes, I found the rectifier tube to be the culprit. After changing the rectifier out, the amp worked fine for a gig or two.
Now, after running the amp for about 45 minutes or so, out of nowhere it will suddenly start to crackle and fizzle until it settles at about half of the volume I had it set it at. The tone becomes all muddy and nasty, and sometimes kicks back in to full volume, but other times it doesn't.
So, the search for the new culprit began. I first changed the power tubes. The problem re-occurred. I changed the pre-amp tubes. Same story. When I flip the standby switch and wait a few minutes before flipping it again, the amp seems to reset itself and works fine for an inconsistent period of time. Any thoughts? This is driving me crazy.

What rectifier did you put in? If it's a new production, it might be faulty.

I second the rectifier. Alway check the last thing you did when troubleshoting a new problem.

if it is indeed the rec tube(and you don't want to pay big $$'s for a NOS),consider trying a copper cap...that's what i run in my RX and it's one less thing to think about.

hmmmmm, i actually I having the same problem with mine, perhaps I need a new rectifier? Can i use a Solid State plug in? yes. you may find it to be a little bit stiffer feeling, or even a bit louder.

It could be related to your input jacks. When I first got mine used, the "low" jack's shorting tab was not making full contact when no cable was plugged into it (i.e. when I was using the "hi" jack) and it sounded like crap. One quick jack fix later and it was go time!
The Mazerati GT is like a firehose that you can throttle down to a cleaner tone and a bunch of tones in between but it wants to ROCK. The Rx also loves to crank (see Mayall's "Dead City") but it'll do everything from "Wind Cries Mary" on up beautifully...

Just curious Phil, how did you fix the jack? was it a solder connection?
