AARRGH, you have 3 z amps, dont use this one much and it sparked, smoked and did all this but you dont want to send it back cause you like it so much? wow, here, hold my hand and get grounded a bit. come back to earth. perhaps it is a minor thing, but you are really going to fix it yourself and you dont know what it is>? unfortunately, with buying z amps, you may have to take the chassis out and send it back (or in the whole head box which is what dr z would prefer) either way you are gonna be out shipping from you to him. in the past i have had dr z tell me i could take an amp of his to an authorized dealer semi-close by, but that has been a long time ago. dr z does not drop ship new amps to people anymore, (for instance) they always go through a dealer first. a lot has changed over the years with shipping/service etc. i once had a z amp wherein one of the power tubes would not light up, z asked me if was handy with a soldering iron, and that if i was i could resolder something he designated. i chose to take it to an amp tech,,, it turned out to be only one of the metal sockets was not touching the tube prongs.. but something burned out like that,,,, naw it goes back.

I would personally send it to dr.z for one I would feel better knowing that the rest of the amp was checked after said part was replaced and then ya know the amp has a clean bill of health ,who knows(the doc will) if something that you cant see caused the burn ?than what if you changed the part and and something else goes wrong .I know parting with the mazerati is tuff even for a few weeks ,I dread the day I have to send mine in for servicing but if you keep the amp long enough its inevitable ,plus you got a ghia and z28 to keep you happy.Dude I like your stlye I've got a rati and I've got a ghia coming I wont say this around the wife but I hope to get a z28 someday
