Iv'e been playing a maz jr. 1-12 but really enjoy Brad Paisely's tone and am thinking about getting a Mazerati. My question for you Mazerati players out there is: will I be able to get generally the same tone on a Mazerati at lower volumes, as I would playing louder? I not talking about really cranking things up and I don't need a lot of distortion. Just a little hair on the tone would be nice. What happens anyway, to a Mazerati, as you turn it up? Thanks for the help. Carey

I think your question is about the volume ? like the mazerati is a pretty clean amp unless you turn it up to about 12 o'clock or more (but I'm using 5751 in v1)keeps the pre amp cleaner and you start to hear your el84s working nicely .with some hair on the note .but using the mazerati at lower volume levels small clubs ,etc.. it sounds nice the cleans on the mazerati are very nice I like the word "pretty" soft, balanced ,detailed , sparkly ,so organic and dynamic very touch sensitive ,get a good overdrive ( I like the keeley modded sparkle drive )I go from autumn leaves to purple haze with my old tele and this setup also the tone dial is voiced perfect you dont have to screw around with your sound you can focus on making music ,sorry for the ramble ,I forget the question?

I would concur w/ Bukowski. The Mazerati has an absotuley beautiful tone. This is my amp for very very long time (and my next purchase will definitely be another Z, since this is my first one and all I can say is WOW). I play through a USA made Fender Jaguar 62 RI mostly and it just sounds great. I haven't changed the tubes at all, so my pre-amp tube is still the 12ax7, but even with that higher gain tube (seems like lots of guys around here like to switch that out for the cleaner 5751) it has to get pretty darn loud for any distortion to come in. On mine - that's at about 11 o'clock - by that point I am easily keeping up with a loud drummer and the other guitar player (and have my ear plugs firmly in-place). But I also use a very very efficient de-tuned 2x12 cabinet.
