Hi, I'm new to the board and to Dr. Z amps. I was able to play a bunch of them last weekend at True Tone Music in Santa Monica and was just amazed by these amps. Anyway, I think I'm headed toward buying the a Mazerati head (I would run it through a detuned 2x12 cab w/ one celstion V30 and one G12H). I Loved the thick /hairy cleans I was getting and would need probably a pedal for my distortion sounds. I've always had big 100W channel switching amps (currently have a Rivera M100 - probably the exact opposite to Z amps in terms of options and dials and crap). I use primarily a les paul w/rio grande P-90's (pretty hot) and another 77 les paul standard w/the original humbuckers. So with all that in mind I have a few questions:
1. Has anyone played a Mazerati w/ germanian based fuzz pedal?? How'd it sound? (i have an Analogman SunFace)
2. Can you recommend any good distortion pedals for fairly heavy stuff? ( I will likely run the amp hard enough so I can back down the guitar volume to about 7/8 for thick, slightly overdrive cleans - and roll it and increase my attack for that mid-level distortion). Not total oblivion - more like warm silky smooth wall sound distortion.
(waiting for someone to tell me I'm looking at the wrong amp - but I think this could be just a sick set-up). Anyway, thanks for your responses, I'm so close to driving up there this coming weekend and taking care of business it's crazy (like $1400 CRAZY!) Anyway you can hear some of our songs at www.greengreengrassmusic.com for perspective of what I'm tyring to do but yet improve.
