I currently play through an Orange Rockerverb 30 amp head and Orange cab filled with celestions, ,however, I've been asked to play for a country/soul/southern rock band and need a different tone, if you know what I mean....I've heard a lot of great things about DR.Z amps and just wondered if this is as great as what people say? Will it be loud enough on stage? (We've got a great PA system) And is this the tone I need for that genre of music? I play a 72' tele and a strat along with a 335. I've also heard great things about Matchess, but I'm leaning more towards Dr. Z...Can anyone give me some helpful advice!? I've got the opportunity to buy a RX JR head and 2x12 cab for a good deal....take it? Thanks!

Well considering that Brad Paisley used the big brother to the RX Jr on one of his albums (almost the entire thing) I would say those tones are in there. The difference is the Jr is 15 watts rather than the ES's 45. But they sound identical to my ear, and the Jr has that lovely master volume that you can use to get the gain up on the front end. Yeah, you can use the RX Jr for country, but you can ALSO use it for just about everything else. As far as volume goes, I agree with the approach of a 2x12 on stage. Through a single 12 I didn't find it quite loud enough, but with two it was magic. Naturally that depends a lot on how loud your band's stage volume is, and how you like to sit in the mix on stage, so YMMV. But it's an amazingly loud amp for 15 watts.

Another thought, aside from the tone. I can't speak for Matchless, but, the Doc's customer service is second to none!!!! I've emailed him on several occasions and had a response within a couple of hours- from Doc personally. I mean, what more could you ask for in a amp manufacturer? Especially as busy as he is!! And I'm just an average Joe that appreciates good tone.
As far as the tone, what Steve said...... I also have the Tele, Strat, Gibson humbucker (Les Paul though) combination that you have and they all go great with this amp- but each in their own special way....

I highly recommend the Jr!!! I agree with steve, 2x12's are the way to go. I traded mine to a fellow board member, and now am looking at ordering a Head and getting a 2x12 cab with Blues. OH YEAH!!!!!
Only other thing to consider would be the Maz Jr.

shorter answer: buy it!
A Blue twangy fan answer: it's wonderful.
For the Rock'n your F'ing head off answer: Can't beat it into a 4x12 with EVH "20watt greenbacks" in it.

The RXJr is a great versatile amplifier. It'll do pristine bell like cleans to raunchy thump you in the chest mean w/ the roll of your guitar's volume knob. And 15 watts are quite loud. W/ the Volume dimed, and the Master Vol at about 12:00 running through a closed back 2X12 w/ inefficient speakers, I was asked to turn down by the sound guy at a 200-300 seat bar doing Rock and Alt-Rock. It'll get the job done.
