OK - I was a bit skeptical but given the fact that we have a 2 yr old in the house I bought an airbrake just to keep the peace in the family for the most part - but now I am sold on it for sure.
I have an Ampeg J-20 - ( I am saving for a MAZ18) - and I finally heard the amp's true character for the first time.
I have a few Fulltone pedals and it actually sounded better with the airbrake and the guitar and the amp with all of the fulltone stuff turned off.
Simply amazing. I had the volume at about 6 and it was the real deal. Thanks Doc !

Never looked back once I bought mine. Important tool to have, you never know where you will be playing and how loud you can play.

I'm starting to get the impression that since I play mostly in my home with a wife and and two children and at low volume,i may not be getting the "good stuff" out of my Mazz.I really like the amp and all but I really don't get the volume up much. Is the Airbreak for me?

Is the Airbreak for me? Could be. Actually, either Maz will work great with either the Airbrake or the Brake Lite. I have the Brake Lite mounted up in my Maz Jr and it's always used around the house. Makes a huge difference in what I hear, that's for sure.

I think I finally figured the airbrake out. I've had one for a couple of years, and used it sparingly as it sounded good on some of my amps (Fenders), and really just never "did it for me" with others (6545, Stang Ray). I've been using it latley with the Maz 18 NR and it sounds great, really lets you open the amp up to see what its all about and doesn't affect the tone too much.
Anyway, the common denominator for me seems to be that I really don't like the airbrake with EF-86 amps (6545, Stang Ray). Those amps just lose the "sparkle" that is the heart of the amp (at least on the 45 side of the 6545). The AB sounds great with the Maz Jr (and other non-EF86 amps).

I didn't like it with the SRZ-65 either. I love it with the Mazerati and the Ghai. Heavy OD and the Bedroom setting is a bit fuzzy and compressed, but that okay. If I'm using an OD pedal for distortion, I just use the pedal, keeping the amp volume lower anyway.

my stang ray doesn't really seem to like having an attentuator (mini-mass or airbrake) but my jtm 45 and rxes work really well with them (especially the marshall).

I had a Boogie Mark 1 and it hated the air brake. My MAZ's love it and so do I!

I wonder if master volume amps aren't as happy with the Air Brake. My Marshalls love it, and so does the Z28. When I first got mine I was put off by the fact that there were only 4 basic settings vs. some kind of continuous control. On stage the settings always seem to be just right.. it's uncanny.

My Airbrake is on its way. I just got a Monza head and will be using it with it. Plus I will be able to use it on DSL50 or my Night Train if I want.
Man is that Monza loud but what an awesome loud it is!

Hmm I wonder if you've got something there. I didn't really like what it did to the tone of my Ray either. But I wonder what it would be like for my Mazerati. Which is the amp I'd rather use it for any way.

Got mine yesterday. Works just fine and with the bedroom setting I hear no complaints from my family or my ears. With the bedroom setting there is added hair(fuzz)the more it is attenuated but I don't attenuate at it maximum setting. No need to on that setting. I will say with just a wee bit of roll back on guitar volume that hair or fuzz diminishes quite a bit and whats left is usable to me.
The other settings are fine as far as transparency. Some roll off of the highs the more its attenuated but still doesn't effect so much I would pass on it. I got this for a very good reason and it fits the bill for me. Not sorry I got it in the least. Quite the opposite. Besides I have a 10 band eq in front of my single channel amps in case I want more/less of something frequency wise. I will say the Monza sounds best un-attenuated. Open and breathing. Fun amp!
Works great with the Monza and my Night Train. When I get my Marshall back from my tech I'll use it on it. Its a 50 watter. Another great Z tool.

The Airbrake has been one of my best all time purchases. It really increases your flexibilty with an amplifier. I must admit though, that my Z amps seem to like it more that my Fender amps. That's ok, since I like my Z amps more than my Fender amps.
