Well I did it, pulled the trigger on a brand spanking new EZG-50 (In red of course i hear those sound the best!) This was quite a bit of a leap for me since i couldn't play through one before hand. but everything I have read and videos i heard it's gonna fit nicely with the band. Now i hope i can retire my Showman. How well do you all think it will pair with a 2X12 semi open back cab with Weber alnico California's? Come on brown truck!

Nice job! That Cab should work fine.... I'm telling you....I don't get too cranked up over ANY new gear, but this EZG-50 is definately the one to have. Let us know how you like it. Mark

actually, the black and tan EZGs sound the best, but red is good too :-) as for speaker choice i highly recommend the Weber Chicago 12.

Hey Floyd,
I just wanted to share w/ you a recent discovery that has secured the ezg a place in my permanent lineup and that discovery is the Airbarke. The amp on it's own has the sweetest cleans ever, but that smooth breakup occurs a noise level that is just a bit too high for my everyday playing. The brake puts that and much more at a more tolerable level.
I just got one and I can't begin to tell you how well the two work together.

Hi all, sorry to troll your thread, but I'm in the process of buying a new amp and the EZG looks and especially SOUNDS amazing. Of course, all I've heard is the Youtube clip. I'm looking for a blackface sound in a new(or slightly used) amp hence my interest in the Z. I've narrowed it down to this and a Vibro-king. Yes, two different animals but similar in many ways. I'm ready to buy right now. Anyone have (or had) a Vibro-king that can give me some insight?
Thanks!! Also, since I'm new I guess I'm not allowed to search the FOR SALE section. ANyone selling an EZG??

WOOHOO!!! it's here. just got a chance to play it even at very low volume (the wife is home sick dangit!) it's stompin' on my showman (that's a good thing as i want to retire it anyways) I was really worried about the EZG being to bright with the Cali's as they have the aluminum dust caps but so far sound great, good control with the T/M/B pots, although they don't work like i expected, they are more subtle than the Showman. The EZG gets it's first gig tonight I'll have more to report tomorrow. so for the most headroom how would i use the pre and post controls? post all the way up and use the pre for volume? I've never had a master volume amp. drzwannabe contact jimfog (couple of posts above this one) he has a blonde EZG for sale at a great price!

Hey drzwannabe, Welcome to the club!! It's interesting, but I have only seen one or two clips that really capture the warmth and incredible texture of the EZG. The outstanding ones in my opinion are from english john, frankiestarr and the official demo. Cemented comes close, but I have considered pitching in for a good mic that is capable of capturing his good playing I've got #32 and don't plan on letting it go. I have a good deal of experience with both amps and thought about listing them out, but I'm such a slow typer. PM me for my cell and I would be happy to give my opinion.

I have an EZG-50 in blonde and I am running in through two Z cabs at once. I have a older small size 1X12 cab in blonde and also an older small size 2X10 cab in blonde. When they are run together it is the best of both worlds. Kind of a cross between a deluxe reverb and a vibrolux. Both cabs sound great by themselves but are magical when run together and because of the older small style cabinets they are easy to transport if need be.

Drzwannabe, I used to own a blonde vibroking and it was a great amp but extremely heavy. I had it with the 2X12 extension cab and it rocked. The two major problems were that when you took away the bottom cabinet it lost alot of its bottom end. The main combo weighs over 80 lbs and the extension cab weighed another 65 lbs so it was too big to move around. Also you have to do a mod on the vibrato or else it tends to tick like crazy. The vibro king is a nice amp but doesn't compare to the beauty of the EZG-50.

I'm going to pick up a 2x10 cab Tuesday also. how do you run two cabs at once?

glad you're enjoying the EZG. it's my absolute favorite amp (Dr Z or otherwise). i've said it before and will probably say it many more times... if i could only keep one amp it would be my EZG without hesitation.

My impressions of the Z: *&%* ## )$# @(!)#_ AMP!
It's the finest amp I've owned, and I've owned them all. This is very close to my Vibroverb but so much more fun. It's hard to put down. I just ordered a z 4x10 so that should be here within the week but right now I'm using a (cough cough) Line 6 2x12 cab and still, it sounds amazing. It's exactly as advertised, it's what a blackface Fender should sound like.

Do give the cab some time to open up. I was a little disappointed with it right out of the box, but then watch out!!
I ran music through it for a few hrs a day and I think it made a difference. Some people believe in speaker break in and some don't. I do.

+1 for breaking in speakers, especially if they have dope on 'em. undoped speakers usually sound real good out of the box. i much prefer "no dope" when it comes to speaker applications. i don't really get the whole pre-rola thing... just not the sound for me. keep on enjoyin' that EZG.

You guys aren't helping the wait... My first Z (EZG-50) is on it's way and should be here by Friday! I'm going to match it with the 4x10. I was looking for a super Super-Reverb, and I think I might have found it.
Not bad for a first post on the forum huh?
