For new tubes, do I need a "matched quad" or just two matched pairs?

This amp has two bias circuits ... one for the left pair and one for the right pair. Matched quads are best but I used to trace match two different duets and plug a different tube type in the left and right pair. Some folks liked it.
In the end it is your choice.

I'm almost 100% sure that the "original, double powered Ghia" pre-2003 Mazeratis did not feature split load biasing, therefore you would need to use a matched quad. The post-2003 "evolution" Mazeratis did feature split load biasing, as Myles said, which enable the use of a different matched pair on each side.
