I've been playing along this morning with a backing track for Led Zeppelin's "Over the Hills and Far Away."
Here's the rig:
Les Paul Standard WCR Crossroads PAF humbuckers Maxon AD999 delay Rx Junior with 1x12 and 2x10 convertible cabs, both closed (settings: B:7, M:10, T:7, Vol: 4, Master: about noon)
I am getting better tone out of this rig than Pagey EVER got live, I kid you not.
I play the opening and closing parts in the middle position, and the main rock parts in the bridge position. No pedals unless I want to kick in the Zen for the F# solo part.
The WCRs give an incredible chime and swirl and shimmer in the middle position (think: Dickie Betts), and a great snarl and bite in the bridge position (think: dirty Michael Bloomfield).
And the RxJr is as close to Marshall as I've been without a real Marshall ... and at bedroom levels!
What a glorious amp! What a glorious combination!
We don't need no stinkin' Marshalls!

While I really like the gained out tone with the master turned way down, but for me the "true" Marshall sound comes at this setting:
Master Maxed Over Dose OFF Volume around 12 oclock Bass off or 9 olclock Mids @ 11 Treble Maxed
Kick on that OD for leads and it's all over but the complaints from others that their sound is not as good as yours. It generaly sounds like this. "Man that amp sounds so f'ing good" Which really means, "man my Marshall never sounded that good"
It really sounds the part through a 4x12.
