I'm wicked impressed!
(I wish I had a better vocabulary for descriptive writing... I don't have the patience to keep a thesaurus close by... If I were half as articulate as this amp... )
At Z-Fest many of you guys played the proto-type... I didn't, but I did listen a lot to everybody else playing through the Remedy-Proto.
Well so far I've used it with a Z-Best, 1x12 Convertible Gold (open) and a 2x10 Convertible (closed). This amp sounds great through them all, but I'm leaning towards the 2x10 but I still need to take the back off. I can only imagine it with a 4x10! I have a feeling that or a 2x10 stacked on a 1x12 will be it, but I'll be using it with a single cab. I haven't played much yet at half power.
Onto the amp. I have very little experience with any Marshall amps at all but I have played with guys that used those 4 input 45 watt? Marshalls. This amp can do that easily but it also has a higher fidelity side to it... I'll call it the Z-Factor for lack of a better word... a "quality of clarity and character" even when driven hard. Nothing is missing, you can hear it all from the initial attack to the decay (unless you want it ring and it will ring forever if you want it to!). Nothing mushy or lost at all, it's all there. It's MUCH tighter than the Marshalls. Also it sounds full and thick even at lower volume settings on full power. Now I was trying to heat it up and see if it would do that "premature mushy compression" that I've witnessed with some of those Marshalls (NO WAY) and I had to take a break as it was freakin' loud!! I could feel the tubes doing their thing. I said before "rich harmonic content" is a total understatement.
I tried it with a couple of Teles, a LP and a 335 and they all dial in nicely and easily. This amp is most definitely a great rock amp, but it can cover anything with the right guitar. My 335 hasn't sang this good at low volumes... my Teles and LP made me feel like a real rock star "wannabe". With the ease of use and functionality of the few controls, this amp is adaptable to almost any playing situation. I can already see how my pedal board is going to get lighter.
The little bit I did with the "half power"... all I can say is Z knows his stuff and the "Remedy" section on his web site says it better than I can. I honestly let it get too loud so I will put it through my paces tomorrow at half power. My ears feel like they do when driving home from a ZZ Top show.
That smile on Curt's face at Z-Fest when he was playing through the Remedy Proto sez it better than I did above.
