Ok, I'd love to tame this thing a bit without an attenuator.
I currently have those GT EL-34LS power tubes in my 6545, which are supposed to be 30 watts each - if I go with the GT EL-34M's, I think those are 25 watts each. That should take me down 10 watts. Any chance there are 20 watt or low EL-34 tubes out there that still sound good? any suggestions? any one use the M's? Again my goal is to reduce volume so I can actually crank this amp (I've been told to turn down so often by soundmen and frankly it's killing my experience!)
Also, everything I've read has the bias for LS's between 34m-36m - is that the same for the M's?
thanks!
(btw - I already use an inefficient speaker)

Sorry - I really have no great solution for you. This is a loud amp.
If you wanted to go out on a limb, you could get Yellojackets and put in EL-84s instead. But that would undoubtedly involve a major tone change (I haven't used them...I'm just speculating).
Good luck!

yeah, I guess I'm not looking for a drastic reduction or change. Reading some more about Groove tubes, I think I'll try the EL-34M's, with a 1-3 distortion scale. I'm thinking this should bring the 6545's power down to 50 watts, and I should get into power tube distortion as early as possible with this amp. That just might do it.
Ok, so with that said, anyone know what I should bias the amp at? (BTW I'm a novice at amp stuff, so go easy on the lingo. I plan on getting a Bias Right from Weber) Thanks!
