Just purchased my very first Z (RX Jr, Z-Best) and am expecting delivery towards the end of the month. I noticed that there is a very helpful EQ Chart of settings on the Maz 18 forum and am wondering if anyone has compiled something similar for Junior? I've seen a couple of suggestions in other threads (can't wait to try the "dimed" setting!), but it would be very helpful to have a mittful of these in one place. Yep, I'll definitely be twiddling knobs in a frenetic frenzy of experimentation, but the "go-to's" are nice to have as well.
I'd like to say that the level of knowledge, respect and civility for members on this forum are the best of any online resource that I have visited, and I'm very grateful to have had the expertise and advice (albeit in lurk mode) of so many of you in choosing this amp and cab. Thanks, and I can't wait to fire her up when she arrives!

Welcome. I too had been lurking for ages and finally started posting in November. This whole "Z culture" is an amazing thing to be part of. Justin

I noticed that there is a very helpful EQ Chart of settings on the Maz 18 forum and am wondering if anyone has compiled something similar for Junior? I haven't seen such a chart but the RX Jr is pretty easy to dial in. The RX Jr doesn't have as many controls as the MAZ and may not be as versatile. But, between the two, the RX Jr is my favorite (and I have both)! And welcome to Z-land and congratulations on your incoming RX Jr!

Actually I think the RX Jr is just as versatile, but it excels at completely different things. By the way, the RX Jr on top of the Z-Best - OMG! You are going to be very happy you got that setup.

To me and my guitars it's not alot of different tones via the tone stack. I seam to sound mostly the same no matter how I run the EQ. For me it's not as bright or thicker sounding with EQ changes. It's the volume and master nobs that play the role in defining the tone. This is what makes haveing all this great tone worth while.
You will readabout how nice the master volume works on this amp. It's no joke. I don't think I have ever played a master volume amp that sounds right at all levels with about being generic sounding.
I have found at condo levels. Your better off leaving the boost on and setting the sound. It doesn't work right for condo level, but it works exactly how it should at band levels.
Edit: what I'm talking about here is the boost isn't the same aat condo levels as when the amp wound up abit.

Curt and Jason G. can both give you some great tips.
Curt's favorite setting is something like "low input, Overdose 'on', and crank that sum beotch". He can get a great old ZZ Top grind outta the RxJr.

Thanks for the responses guys. I really hadn't considered the MV and Volume knobs as the main factor in determining the tone... looking forward to exploring this more fully.

I definitely agree with ASAT, but i'd like to include that the overdose and input choice makes a large difference too. I found that the overdose really helps fill the sound at lower volumes on both inputs since it adds more in the rectifier department. Also the choice of how much clean headroom you want is completely based on the input too. It's almost like having a Marshall or Hiwatt(depending on where you put the channel and master volumes) in the hi and almost a Vox in the low. But like he said you really get the amp no matter the eq changes, it's really just how much shimmer or boom you want.

Many say this amp is primarily in the Vox/18 watt Marshall camp, but I found a very convincing Fender clean the other day.. a la SRV's Lenny.
Bass 6, Middle 3, Treble 6, Volume 8, master to taste and back off the guitars volume knob halfway. Heaven!

That backing down the guitar's volume is such an amazing trick with most of the Z amps - I'm always surprised when someone hasn't tried it. It's magical!

Oh I know.. gets those tubes workin'!
Found another great setting today..
Bass 5, Middle 7, Treble 7, Volume 8.. a light crunch but very twangy when I pick by the bridge on my LP.. then hit the OD and flip to the neck pickup and it's lead tone heaven.

Speaking of backing down the guitar volume, I found a new pedal that I have been using quite a bit. If I found it two months ago, I'd still have my Jr!!! But its awesome with the Z28.
Its the Heavy Electronics Descend. Has a pre set volume knob and a tone knob to compensate any tone loss by the drop in volume. Its exact and does not color tone!!
Check it out. Plus, the owner, Sayer Payne, is one cool cat to work with!!!! Answers emails and phone calls quickly. Young dude, but a great pedal maker....well beyond his years!!!!
