Hello all My search for a new amp has led me here. While I do enjoy a variety of styles I spend a lot of time dialing in a sound somewhere around either early VH or Page. My one question is will the GT do the early VH? I found a post somewhere that talked about this a bit but I can't seem to find it.

Its smoother, not crunchy bright like the plexis. I'd get a Mojave Peacemaker or a Splawn if you're looking for the early VH sound. In a Zamp, I'd give the Remedy a try when it comes out, it might be more the thing.

I wouldn't recommend either of those for Van Halen. If you want early VH, go listen to my myspace page. Then if that's what you're after, I can hook you up.
Having said that, the Mazerati GT is an awesome guitar amp. It's very reminiscent of a Trainwreck Rocket tonally, which means "hot-rodded AC30".

Checked out your myspace there, so what is that anyway? Sounds good

It's a Plexi with the EVH mods done to it, different filter and resistor values, cascaded gain stages, and a Post-Phase Inverter Master Volume.

I love the sound of this amp as it is. The clips are great. It's the exactly the kind of sound I try and dial in about 80% of the time. The rest of the time I'm looking for something a bit heavier. I was thinking another option would be the Maz 18NR. Then I could just drop a zvex box of metal in front of it for the occasional heavy stuff

For anyone who likes the feel of guitar>cord>amp, this is about as good as it gets. The Maz 18, on its own, doesn't even approach the amount of gain and volume that the GT has. It'll do a great classic rock crunch, but the GT is in a completely different category. The GT is also MUCH, MUCH louder. Too loud for clubs or small stages without an airbrake. They each have their place.
