Ugh....I'm half convinced to sell my maz 38 and pick one of these things up. It sounded unbelievable, even at low volumes. Definitely a tone I could dig. I'm trying to convince myself to save up and purchase it later, but at the moment I'm really having trouble with the patience for that. This amp is incredible.

Yup, I still love it. I recently added a MAZ 18 NR and I am getting it dialed in. I played it a lot today and I really like it a lot, but i could never give up my RXJr. To me it is less compressed than the MAZ and has a percussive quality and in-your-face attack that seems just right to me. It will also Marshall up quite well in addition to doing the Vox chime with Doc's signature. I'm playing in a country rock band the the RXJr is about perfect. The tone is killer with a Celestion Blue by itself, and is super with a G12H30 added for bottom (both in Doc's Convertible cabs). Talking about this just makes me look forward all the more to band practice tomorrow night. We are going in the studio this month and I am taking my rig although the studio has a nice backline. None of it compares to the RXJr to my ears.

AGREED!!! I traded my Jr with a Blue (Combo) for a Z28, and although I truly love the tones I am getting from the Z28, I really miss the RX Jr. I will be saving up for one. I thought about the Stang Ray, but the Jr. is just so much better for me. I dont need that much power.
I think I passed originally since I was a guy who used pedals for tones, but now I am really appreciating getting an amp dialed in, and then only using boost pedals and very light dirt pedals to push it over the edge. I was playing my LP Gold Top right into my Z28, just added a tiny bit of delay and it was awesome!!!
I guess I am getting the way like some others here, just use the amps break up instead of a pedal. Although I will never get rid of my pedals, they are going down in # for sure!!!

Hey William. I have both amps and I'd be hard pressed to let either one go. I'm not sure what your gigging situation is - the Maz covers a lot of territory, but the Rx Jr is one serious tone machine itself as you just found out. If it's possible I'd try to keep the Maz and get the Rx Jr a different way. If you can't, well you'll still be a happy player that's for sure. Sonic blessings, Steve

I have a fairly comprehensive selection of the Dr. Z EL84 amps. I love em all, but for what I've been doing for the past couple of years I've really hit it off with the RxJr. With the Master Volume, Clean Boost, and volume knob on the guitar, whether it's a Tele, LP or Strat I get what I like.
Lately the gigs I participate in are not really loud and I cut through at manageable volumes no problem.

Just played my new one through some mini Marshall 412. The cab was new, stiff, and arguably crappy, and I only got to play it for 15 minutes or so, but I know this amp is gonna sound good through a Z cab at home where I can open it up.. ;D

I just gigged mine this weekend and she shined like no other amp I've owned. I love it with my Strat and Tele's, but I plugged strait in with my buddy's Explorer and holy cow.....this really shines with humbuckers for a beautiful gain. I've never experienced how well it worked until I was able to open it up inside a gymnasium. And this was just with a 1x12 with a Greenback....I can't imagine what it would be like with a Z 4x10 or Zbest in the same situation. Thanks Doc for designing such an AMAZING amp!

I'm doing everything I can to try and get my hands on one of these amps, but if what you guys are saying is true; I'll have to buy another humbucker guitar to go with it!
