How do the cleans compare? How hot is the lead channel on the Galaxie? Is it hotter than cranking gain on the maz?
For the Galaxie, do you guys prefer the dirt on the clean pushed by pedals or straight up with the lead channel?

How do the cleans compare? How hot is the lead channel on the Galaxie? Is it hotter than cranking gain on the maz? For the Galaxie, do you guys prefer the dirt on the clean pushed by pedals or straight up with the lead channel? The cleans are similar until 12 0'clock. After that the Galaxie becomes a different amplifier all together. Yes, the gain channel on the Galaxie is hotter than cranking the gain on my Maz38. I am a pedal guy from the get-go so I will always use them. So, to answer your question - I use pedals in front of the 1st channel for leads. However, if you open the 2nd channel up on the Gal' it will scream with a lot a rock and roll muscle. Obviously, it depends on your guitar IMO. I use a PRS McCarty with McCarty treble and bass pups and a Suhr Strat (S,S,H). It is not, IMHO, gonna get you into the metal, nu metal, industrial, etc... arenas w/o a little help from a hot stomp box designed just for that flavor. I personally have no need for that much gain and aggression. Hope this helps. Any other questions feel free to contact me and I will answer to the best of my ability. Sincerely, Bill (bilbal)

I find when you've got your board in front of you it gives you so much versatility if you've got a couple different overdrive/clean boost/ etc.. you can mix and match for some cool tones.... I just got my maz not too long ago and I'm waiting for my modded tubescreamer to come in... I'm using an rc for a little dirt now, but when I get the modded TS things will be out of control....

I think once you heard the second channel on the Galaxie you'd change your mind about not using it.
I thought the same thing.......................until I played/heard it ;^)

Rolling the volume knob on my 336 past 7 on my Maz Jr is like kicking open the 4 barrel carb on a big block v8. You guys do remember carburetors and muscle cars, don't you? The same exercise on the Galaxie is like lighting an afterburner on a F/A 18. If you have never sat off the end of the runway watching big Fighter Jets taking off and doing go arounds you really owe it yourself to experience it. I call it the sound of freedom... but my point is that when something like an F15 does gear up with the afterburner on about 50 meters away from you, the power is literally breathtaking. When they get up half a click and shut down the afterburner, the moment just gets more surreal. You can still feel the heat on your face and the pressure on your chest, but suddenly you can hear your heart beating. This is not quite the same as switching channels on the Galaxie, but it can produce a similar feeling the first time you crank on it.
I have no pedals. I am still enjoying a working volume and tone knob.

The CLEAN channel on the galaxie can get more drive than the MAZ, never mind the gain side Running both for a little break-up ala' Brad Paisley the galaxie sounds like a tweedy american 6L6 amp. The Maz sounds like mildly overdriven el84 Vox AC30 -a little more nasal but just as sweet. The Maz is my all time favorite amp -it introduced me to the immortal el84, but now it has to share that lofty spot with it's cousin the Galaxie. check this clip of the galaxie for a vol range and comparison between the two channels www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=730431
