Have owned a Maz 18 Jr NR head since 2002 and love the way it interacts with OD pedals. How does the EZG-50 compare in this category?

Takes pedals very well. It is a pedal monster.

I have a Maz 18 NR head and an EZG 50. I like the pedal interaction of the EZG better than the maz, and I think the maz interacts great with pedals.

Thanks for the replies so far. Regarding my interest in the EZG-50 and pedals, here's what I wrote on TGP: "...I'm NOT trying to faithfully reproduce what an OD pedal alone can do, but combine it with the amp distortion and amp EQ to obtain a tone that's "better" (to my ears) than either alone. The Maz 18 is a great platform for doing that. Setting it up just below amp breakup (so you can still get a nice clean tone w/o OD pedals) and then hitting it with an OD pedal with a slight level boost to combine a little amp breakup with the pedal distortion is where I like to operate and is what the Maz seems to be legendary at doing. So, if the EZG-50 pre/post volumes allow that kind of operating point, it seems like it could really shine at what I'm trying to accomplish....but, with a decidedly Fender vibe instead of the Maz 18 vibe". Based on what you guys are saying, the EZG-50 should be amazing for my application. Cool. I may sell another amp to get one. It's about time I owned more than one 'Z'.

Hi!
I have one than I play through 2x!0" or 2X12" Z cabs and I usually bring my dining room size pedalboard and the EZG eats all of them like buttermilk ;D As with all other Z amps I've tried, this one takes pedals just as well.

I have picked up a few new pedals lately. I think my favorite new pedal combination for with the EZG is the Fulltone OCD into a fulltone fat boost. That combination works wonders with the strat. There is a wide variety of tone available by just adjusting the volume on the guitar.
Anyone else have any good pedal suggestions with the EZG.

Some guy is asking this same question on TGP, Pedals and the EZG.

Watch this video from Z-Fest 2008: kencali.info/ZVid.htmWarning: it takes a while to load but it's worth it. After the interview with Dr. Z, and benttop and Buddy playing the EZG, near the end of the video you see the Cusack Screamer on the floor being played into the EZG-50 by "English" John of Peach Guitars. That made me go out and get a Cusack Screamer myself. It sounds real good into the EZG!

Like John says. There is something very right about a "tube screamer" type of pedal with the EZG-50. I've dinked around with lots of pedals with mine, but keep coming right back to my Maxon OD808 (TS-10 circuit i think?). It's just a great tone! To spice it up I use my Analogman Sunface and the EZG loves it. What's nice is the big bottom of the EZG really lets the fuzz sound massive instead of packing it in.
Great amp!

I think tubescreamers always sound really good with blackface type circuits because they tend to give a litttle boost in the midrange that most of those type of amps are lacking.
Great pic Phil, thanks for posting.

I'm on the waiting list for a Kingsley Jester. www.kingsleyamplifiers.com/jester/jester.htmlIt is basically an amp in a box running on two tubes. I think this will be awesome for my EZG50 and will turn a great amp into a two channel killer amp. Here are a few vids of the amp from youtube. I'll post reviews when I get it which should be around July or August according to the builder. I'm putting money aside now as they are $375. ;D

This amp just seems to EAT OD pedals. Doc really has a way with the front-end of amps that just WORKS.......in a way not too many other makers seem to even consider.
Right now, a Barber Small Fry is just KILLIN' it with my red EZ.

I just bought a EZG-50 and it is amazing with everything on my pedalboard! This includes a Barber DD, Fulldrive, Sparkle Drive, and the KLON (which I use first from my guitar to stack onto the other OD pedals). I have 4x 10" Gold's sitting here waiting for my cab to arrive! =-)

EZG continues to kill with every combo I can throw at it. Last couple of gigs have been Thin Skin Tele, or WCR loaded Lester into my Fulldrive II Mosfet into the EZG. Flippin' cool tones without question.

In keeping with the TS vibe....

Cool video! Congrats, Mike! After 7 years of owning my Maz 18 NR, I finally know how to pronounce your last name! LOL! The amps all sounded amazing. I've been considering adding an EZG5- for some time now! Watch this video from Z-Fest 2008: kencali.info/ZVid.htmWarning: it takes a while to load but it's worth it. The EZG is the most pedal friendly amp that I've ever had the privilege of playing. As it's been stated before, it's a tone monster.

I just got an email yesterday from Kingsley amps that stated my Jester would be ready in about a week. When I get it I'll post a full review with the EZG50. If you look at the sight you'll see that they are also coming out with a new pedal called the Jouster which is a dual overdrive similiar to the Jester.

Hmmm, may just have to go with the Jouster, it looks like a better option for my needs.

My Bogner Blue sounds best with a great clean base tone, which the EZG gives you in spades. The Bogner Blue sounds very full and chunky with the EZG and a Z Best, with a Carbon Copy Delay at the end going into front end. Very nice.
