So I bought jtw's Galazie that was on the BS&T. My son and I are going to share this one. I hope it's a good idea. Should be coming in the end of next week or the begining of the next. I haven't used a 6L6 amp since I had my real 4X10 Bassman. So I'm looking forward to it. I probably won't use it much. I really don't have the need for that kind of power. Maybe the Airbrake will get some use. My son will use it with his open Blues Breaker Avatar 2X12 with the Vintage 30 and the G12H. So how is this going to compare with my Maz 38? What else can I (we) expect? Is anybody putting the NOS rectfiers in these babies? I'm getting closer to collecting the whole set.

Congrats on the new acquisition. Not really sure how it will compare with the Maz 38. But you will have plenny of tone and power available. Have been running my 112 combo(G12-65) with older style Z 112 cab (V30) and find it gives lots of warmth. Nice top end and a solid bottom end. Channel 1 is where I spend most of my time - very much like the tweed Fenders such as Super, Pro and a lower powered Twin. Would love to run with a 115 and 210 sometime. Guitars? It has been very friendly with everything I've played thru it - PRS, Gibson, Fender, Ernie Ball ... heck my ol' 87 Squier Strat sounds absolutely awesome. Handles pedals well too ... but I find I keep the path very simple - sometimes a compressor - but mostly just straight in with the channel switcher as only pedal required. Have only re-tubed once ... not NOS at this time .... still original rectifier tube ... believe it is an ElectroHarmonix ... ain't looked at that part of the amp lately. And, to quote my PRS and Bad Cat playin' friend ... "that is one loud lil feller .... in a very good way". ;D cheers always, eh Joel

Bill, Y'all gonna be grinnin'...W I D E. ;D I haven't found the need for any pedals w/this 1(except maybe a little modulation/delay), Just volume knob on the guitar, and channel switcher. Got a NOS rec in mine. Tone?...well.....sorta.

That's great that you got that one on the way Bill. I don't have one of dem...yet!! The funny thing with these higher power Dr. Z Amps and owning an AirBrake... you do end up using them.

Hey Bill, Congratulations on the Gal. I'm sure that Will is gonna love Ch 2! The Galaxie's different but still has the Z footprint: touch sensitivity, huge bottom, string balance, chime and sparkle. IMHO where it differs from my maz sr's is what I can only describe as that lively cool tweed swirl, especially on ch1. I've always appreciated the tone of a cranked up Fender Bassman and Super Reverb and ch1 satisfies that tone need for me. It's more tweed than blackface. Ch2 offers a lot of gain that's rich with singing sustain and smooth OD. I don't think the Galaxie is that loud compared to my 6545 as I could never open up the 65's output section live, even with a loud band. I feel I can open up the the Galaxie with the airbrake on 1 or 2. IMO I think my Maz Sr's were much louder than the Galaxie. Yeah, carrying and hooking up the airbrake is a hassle but it's worth it IMO. I'm running ch1 volume around 9:00 - 11:00 and ch2 around 9:00 - 10:00. Treble noon, Bass 1:00 - 3:00 depending on the size of the room (more bass for larger or outside), and Presence at noon.
IMO the Galaxie tone stack is more like the Rt66/Z28 than the Maz's tone stack. I was amazed at the different tones and amp response from tweaking the tone controls. For me setting the bass control past noon adds a rich gooieness to ch2, especially since I use single coil p/ups. I'm jes saying, don't underestimate the power of the tone controls as they seem like more that just a simple filter cut.
My Galaxie is a 2x10 combo and I'm loving the sound coming out of those Z 10's especially when being pushed hard. Yeah Baby!
I'm not gigging a ton but the Galaxie has been the goto amp. I didn't think my Stangray would ever take second chair but it has. Of course given time there will be another amp come along... Remedy, EGZ half power... :-)
Enjoy your new Galaxie!

Congrats on the Galaxie. It's a great amp, you'll find that effect pedals are almost not necessary.

LOL, I predict a family feud coming... ;D Take it easy on the boy, he's a good one and I'd hate to see him leave home with your new Galaxie in tow.

Well the amp came today safe and sound. Wow! I played the prototype at the first Z fest and sure don't remember it sounding this way. Will and I just had a very little time with it as we had to do something after wards. SWAMBO has now entered the building so all blasting is off. I'm going to give it a good work out on Saturday when I get together with some "Blues" friends. I'll keep everybody posted.

We tried the Airbrake with some nice results. Like having a couple of extra controls. It is very loud through the Avatar open back 2X12. Also tried my DRZ 2X10. That's nice too. Got to hook up the Z best with Golds. ;D

Well I used the Galaxie Saturday night with my "blues" friends. It's a keeper for sure! I used my 2X10 DRZ cab with beam blockers. I had it set real low. Volume on channel 1 at 10o'clock and Volume on channel 2 about 9o'clock, just barely on, and the amp switched to triode. I was gonna bring the Airbrake and sure wished I did. It was pretty loud. I didn't want to get into any volume wars, so I left the settings the same. I did switch the amp to pentode later on in the night. I used chaneel 2 all night because it had enough break up even at that low volume setting. Sure do wish I brought the Airbrake. Lesson learned.

Sounds like off to a good relationship with your new Blonde Gal. It's good to hear you're liking her, gotta keep a close eye on Will before he starts making out with your Gal. I've been fortunate lately and get to play the ole Gal purdy darn loud. Not near as loud as Ward. And like you found I tend hang on Channel 2 and work the guitar's volume control.
Thanks for the update!
