Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone ever tried to use the KT66 in your SRZ? I sold mine a few weeks ago. I had thought of trying it, but never got around to it. I think KT66s would sound great in the SRZ. Anyone?

I believe KT66s would not work with an SRZ (they are direct swaps for 6L6s). You could use KT77s in an SRZ, as Carl Verheyen does in his European one.

What got me thinking about that was the old Marshall Plexis. Some of them had KT66s, while others have EL34s. Is a socket change necessary?

This is where my expertise (specifically my lack thereof) ends. My knowledge of Marshal Plexis is not very deep, but I've only heard of EL34s and later 6550s in them. I do know however that the JTM-45 uses 6L6s, which Clapton modded to use KT66. I do know that Jimmy Page modded his Plexis to use KT88s.
I do know that a KT66 will not fit in an EL34 socket. Furthermore, I don't think the KT45 or the SRZ65 would work with them because of the power transformer, etc.
You should ask myles, he's the guy who knows this stuff. Either shoot him a PM or go to his thread in the Ask the Experts section.

I asked Doc this question a while back. Here you go.
Question: How would I go about biasing the head for KT66 tubes? Assuming KT66 tubes would fit in the head. Answer: I would not suggest that, as the drive signal for EL-34's is half the drive signal needed for KT-66's, won't sound right.
