19jmm68 - Here's my whole setup:
50th Anniversary American Series Strat or 52Reissue Tele into pedal chain: Boss TU-2 > TS-808 Reissue set for slight volume boost and a touch of grind > tc electronics chorus > old Ibanez AD-9 delay. I took the wah out of the chain for the gig because the bar had bad power and it was causing a bad hum when engaged (common issue for wahs when the power is noisy -- dang inductors...).
Pedal chain into Maz High input.
Maz-38 knob settings: Volume 11:00; Treble: 11:00; mid: 10:00; Bass: noon; Cut: 9:00 (barely on); Master: 2:00; reverb: Just enough to hear the effect. Honsetly, reverb coulda been higher -- the Maz reverb sounds a bit strong in rehearsal room, but it was great in the bigger venue.
Only time I used the 808 was for Texas-Flood-like solos, or for rhythm crunch with guitar volume rolled off a bit. Most of the time I went between rhythm and solos with the guitar volume knob. The 808 is a hold-over from my previous amp. It may not be the ultimate OD for the Maz, but I was not the least bit disappointed (sounded great in conjunction with the AD-9, btw) and I probably won't go looking for a replacement until my GAS pains return.... Chorus sounded fantastic, too. Used it to add some nice shimmer and depth to chords on tunes like Knockin' On Heaven's Door and Wonderful Tonight.
I use the Tele in open G for some Stones stuff (Tumbling Dice, Happy, Honkey Tonk), no effects engaged. The natural crunch of the Maz driven by those vintage style pickups really barked out the perfect Keef tone.
I think the speaker (G12H30) finally broke in. I was a bit concerned about some weirdness that emerged during rehearsals, but she sounded great with no cone cry or ghost note artifacts. There's a lot of discussion on speaker swapping on this board, but I'm gonna keep the G12 in.
And during and after the gig, the other guys in the band all give their thumbs up on the amp. All in all, Maz has exceeded my expectations.
