Which would you say has more headroom for clean tones. The Z-28 or RxJr?
I know what I was told but want to keep this open to what others have to say.
Yes, I know speakers this, but I'm asking because of a Blue in the RxJr and I have a G12H in the Z-28.
Thanks Dave

My 2 cents, I now have the Rx Jr and use it thru a 1x12 cab with a Weber Blue Dog 30 watt or a 2x12 cab w 2 Vintage 30's. I used to have a Z28 and used it with the same combinations and I feel the Z28 has more headroom.

However, I might add that the Cleans I heard on the Z-28 and my RX JR are very different cleans... I tend to prefer the EL-84 cleans. Some may just prefer the 6V6 sounds of the Z-28. YMMV

Based on my Mesa Maverick. I'm not sure if I like the sound of El-84 cleans or not, but I keep thinking that it was toooooooooooo mannnnnnnnny nnnnnooooooobbbbbsssss and I was getting lost as to which nob would improve the tone.
The RxJr was the amp I was originaly asking about at the same time as the Z-28 and it still has my intrest.

Having experience with both I feel that the Z28 offers more clean headroom. YMMV.

Dave,
The Mesa EL84 amps and the Z EL84 amps are completely different animals. I've played the LSS, F-30, and Blue Angel, and while nice, they can't hold a candle to the Z EL84 tone. I never had the opportunity to play the Maverick; I've heard they are nice.
You will definitely have more clean HR w/ the Z28, and the 6V6's will give you a different clean.

My curve ball...
With single coils I agree with the all of the above, but with humbuckers I seem to get cleaner headroom at louder volumes with the RxJr. The Z-28 to my ears (at least my Z-28) seems to give it up sooner with humbuckers a less of a volume.
Listening to 6strang put it through it's paces with some of my Gibsons was fun!!

Thanks guys! In the immortal words of Dana Carvey in Wayne's World..."I Just Like to Playyy." I am still taking in all of the great licks and tone from the 2 of yous! p.s. I did typically play the RxJr with single coils...FWIW

Yeah, single coils have the tone. If you get the right ones you will aways sound better than humsuckers. I'm not in love with my Gibson humbuckers or the guitar for that matter.
