How much headroom is available on the maz 38 sr. compared with the master volume turned down and up? I'm looking for an amp with more American (fender?) clean tones to complement my 6545.
I've only tried one breifly at a dealer but that day the store was pretty busy and I couldn't really hear over the guy cranking the marshall behind me.

When you plug into the low input turn master all the way up then use the vol it acts just like a Fender ......plenty loud

The Maz 38 sr can be set to sound the most Fender like. Probably about the same clean volume as a pro Reverb. But, it is much easier to get a sweet tone without the'spikey' highs of a Fender. I think it's the most versatile Dr Z amp. I think the Prescription ES may have a liitle more clean volume but no reverb or master volume to spice it up a little. I also like that the Maz 38 sr has a fan to keep temps down in the amp. That will have to pay off in the long run. Those Fenders get really hot, especially when you tilt it back. When i used Fenders I always had to have a fan on it. I've seen lots of old Fenders that had evidence of lots of heat buildup inside the chassis.

What they said. If you want more Fendery sound, replace the first two preamp tubes with Ei Elite 12AX7. I am a loooooooong time Fender player and my Maz amps beat them, for me.

Thanks a bunch to everyone who replied.
What your describing is exaxtly the kind of sound I'm looking for. Now I just have to get up early enough to try the amp before the store gets crowded.
