RE: What kind of cab....
That's a good question!!!
Right now I have two 1x12 Marshall JTMC12 cabs. They have Celestion Heritage 70 watt speakers in them.
Since I'm a big Robben Ford fan, I know he uses a Z-Best 2x12. I asked Dr.Z. what he built for Robben. He replied stating that he uses a Vintage 30 and A G12H 30.
So, I'm thinking of an Avatar 212H with those particular speakers. A Z-Best would be nice but it's a little more than I can spend at this time.
I've been all over the Eminence web-site... I wish they had more mp3's. I like some of their stuff, just not sure of a hi-watt speaker... I like a low watt speaker.
I found when recording with my Marshall JCM900, my G12T-75's were muddy and tough to record, when I changed to 25 watt Greenbacks the recording was much more robust. Sort of an Eric Johnson tone...
I unfortunately don't have the time to try out a lot of stuff... so this is a big factor as well... I need to get what I'm looking for on the first purchase.

You like Robben's sound? he uses Tonkors. and if you are only going to be recording thats a whole different deal, I record mostly with a 15 watt amp{Fender Pro Jr} with a 20 watt 10'' Jensen

I love Robbens tone! Eric Johnson's as well... Buddy W. has also become a recent favorite... You say Tonkor's huh? Because Dr.Z himself said "A Celestion V-30 and a H-30" for Robbens Z-Best.
I'm not 100% recording... I jam with the band, play out a little and record originals...

I was under the impression that Robben picked his ZBest up in a store in LA, which would have probably been a standard issue G12H-30/ Vintage 30. I wouldn't be surprised if he swapped out speakers as so many of us do.
Congrats on your new Maz Sr, been there...a great amp!

It finally arrived!!! It's here!!! I've been jamming for an hour or so and all I can say is wow!
My speakers have a lot less to be desired. I have two old Marshall 1x12 (JTMC12's) with two 70watt Celecstion Heritage speakers.
The cabs are made of 1/2" something (not sure if its ply or particle of MDF). But whatever it is... it's crap. I don't like the speaker match with the Maz 38 either. The speakers are to mellow.
So, tomorrow, I'm going to order the Z-Best and make the dream complete.
I can't believe how loud this thing is... I now have a head ache and need to take a break from playing. Hope I have Tylanol. Much different than my Marshall. Alot of force in your face from the speakers vs. the nice mellow thunder from the Marshall.
I'm amazed at how the tone can change so fast by just a tweek of some of the settings. At some point we should post pictures of our favorite settings.
