I have a Galaxie coming this week from a trade with Stu at Fatsound (Thanks Stu!!), and am curious if anyone has tried an Eminence Wizard with the Galaxie? I have a 1x12 J Design open back cab with this speaker in it.
My gut feeling is that another single 12" speaker might work better with the Galaxie, but am interested in what feedback you all might have.
I know the G1265 is the speaker the Gal was designed around. I can't remember, is there an Eminence equivalent to the G1265?
Thanks for any feedback everyone.

IIRC, you were looking for ways to tame the volume of your Carmen Ghia? Unless you are playing bigger stages you will be wanting a low efficiency speaker with the Galaxie. I do not have a Carmen Ghia, but I do have a Maz Jr, which I understand is reasonably equivalent in power out with the Carmen Ghia. All other things being equal, my Galaxie is noticeably louder than my Maz. Some of that can be attributed to the unique tone the Galaxie has on channel two. But physics is the law and the Galaxie is easily packing twice the Watts of the Maz Jr.
I am saving up for either a G1265 or maybe a custom but similar Weber. My Galaxie is very loud indeed through a stock Z Best. With a pair of 25W Greenbacks in the Z Best it is a little less loud. I am hacking on some 1 x 12 cabinet designs but I do not have daring do to plug the Galaxie into a single 25W speaker.
I have not owned an Eminence speaker in over 30 years so I cannot speak about them. I can say that the Galaxie sounds mighty fine to my ears with Greenbacks. But that is me... what tone are you looking for?

Galaxie/Zbest/greenbacks = KILL.....BUT.....if I were going to use a 1x12 with it....MY choice(s) would be....
(Open back)....Celestion Gold.......Weber 50 watt Blue(AlNiCo)...Doesn't have to be a Weber, but....if not a Gold..... that's what I would buy..........VERY light dope.
(Closed/Semi-closed)... G1265..... Hellatone V30.......
Sorry Bro....I 'aint hep to Eminence as non-factory items.
JMO/FWIW...etc......

Weber makes a 1265 that is a fine speaker. It sounds fantastic paired with the Galaxie. At first I didn't like it until my ears got used to it after using a single greenie with the Galaxie for a month or so but after a while when my ears became accustomed to the tone I really liked it. It really depends on what you are trying to achieve. If it's a great compressed rock n roll tone into channel 2 go with greenies. Don't forget though that you will need two and in the end even though the greenback has a 97 db rating, two speakers will give you more volume. The tone with greenies and the Galaxie on the other hand into channel 2 is really something special. If you looking for a rounder, more open chimey sound on the first channel, then get a single Weber 1265 or the Celestion g12 65 heritage. They are both around 97 db which should bring your volume levels down and handle the Galaxies power. I will have a Eminence Texas Heat arriving next week and will let you know how that goes as well .

Man, thanks everybody. These are all great things to consider. Jan, yep, I was the guy looking to tame my Ghia. Funny how it all works out sometimes, eh? As it turns out, in the process of trying to tame my Ghia, I actually wound up severely limiting my capability to keep up volume and headroom wise with the band I'm playing with. I never thought I'd need any more power than the Ghia could give me, but whaddayaknow, here I am. I have also been slowly turning my direction back to the big-bottle "American" voiced amps over a period of time. I've been playing EL84 amps for over 10 yrs now, and I think my ears are just a bit fatigued from that tone. Never thought I'd say that, but again, here I am. I demo'd a Galaxie at my local dealer a few months back and just remember saying "That's it...right there..." At the time I didn't have the money to buy it otherwise I would have on the spot. Now I've got one on the way to me and I'm really looking forward to it. I've also found that I like having some decent headroom so I can use my OD pedals in front of the amp, and not rely solely on the amp's overdrive capabilities. jtw

Also, to add what I'm looking to achieve tone-wise, I'd really like a big American tone. I know that's really broad, but I'd like to focus more on that side of the pond, tonally, than the British rock type of sound. I know the Gal isn't a Dumble-type amp, but there were some characteristics of that amp I heard while demo'ing the Gal. I guess I'd sort of like to move in that direction, tonally. I don't expect or even want the Gal to be a Dumble, but "in the ballpark" would be great.
I'm thinking of getting in touch with J Design to see if they can make a semi-closed back baffle for my 1x12. I know it's offered as standard now, but my cab is a bit older and just want to make sure the drill holes match up.
