Hey guys! I've been checking out some amps to replace my AC15cc, and basically deciding between the Maz and the Cub!
The Maz is obviously much cheaper and I'm totally sold just from watching the demo video on the DrZ site.
Can anyone offer any insight into this? Thanks All =D

Don't know much about the cub, but the Maz will do an excellent job of sounding like (maybe better) than your Vox. Or, if you want a more Marshall-like sound, it'll do that too. Or, if you want a more Fender Deluxe-like sound, it'll do that too. Best bang for the buck in small amps, IMO. But then again, we're all a little biased here. :-)

IB, when I was shopping around i played the Bad Cat. It's a great amp. But if you can, go PLAY a Maz Jr. It will rock your world (and the world of everybody else around you.)

Head/Cab is a lot more flexible and easier to move, but costs more and is more trouble to set up. I have a combo. I want a head to pair with my Convertible so I don't have to choose until the moment of loading for the gig. Besides, if I had a head too I could pair it up with my Z-Best or 2x12 open back as the case may warrant. Head cab is much more flexible! Love that combo though..

Hi.
And a head will give you a hair more headroom.

Gotcha....well i'm tempted to get a head...because it'll keep the shipping way down...to like $200?

No cat exp here but I can't ever say enough good things about the Maz Jr. It is by far the best amp I have ever played through. You will not be disappointed! ;D

Depends on what you want. If you want a "grab n' go" situation, get a combo - especially the 2X10 - those 10" speakers are great! If you don't mind a "grab n' go then go back & grab again" situation, the head/cab thing is definitely more flexible.

I actually used to own a Cub II (NR). Now I own a Maz Jr. Lemme break down the details, though. I had a Bad Cat Cub II (NR) head, through an Avatar 2X12 (Vintage 30/G12H30). My Maz Jr. is also a "NR", but is a combo with a Blue/G12H30 combo. The Maz has more gain, better mids ('cause you can add/reduce), and is also louder. All in all, I like the Maz better. For what it's worth...... -Tookermel

So you're an Aussie too. G'day mate. I have the Cub IIR 2 x 10" and the Maz Jr 1 x 12 NR combo (in cream with brown grill- yeh looks great). I love the cub (which is why i still have it), it has a different voice to the Maz- think Kieth Urban, although both run EL84,s and 12AX7,s. I bought the cub 4 yrs ago here for 4K - ouch! Was it worth it? Yep! Had not even heard of DR Z at that time. Then I bought the Maz 18 NR with a Helatone 2nd hand and I thought, yeh, not bad. Played it as was and was almost going to sell it 2 mths ago. Then I had it serviced, all new tubes and things tightened (it was air freighted from US). What can I say....AWESOME. Incredible clean sound and very nice OD. JJ 12AX7,s thickened and warmed the tone. Great amp the Maz, get one, you won't be dissapointed.

I know my Maz 18 NR impresses me every time I turn it on. I don't think you will be disapointed with you decision to go with the Maz.

Yeah i'm a big fan of Keith Urban too...but I just cant afford to fork out 4k for an amp. I'm sure I'll be real happy with the Maz 18....not liek its cheap! But i'm sure it'll be an awesome investment!! BTW is the Maz 18 quite big? 23" by 20" is the same width as my AC15 but even a bit taller!

Both great amps with great build quality and tone. I picked the Maz 18 over the Badcat, and would do it again. But I pick my old Fender amps over the Galaxie, so it can go that way too.
