LOW END

The Galaxie was the first Z that I played, which was great because I've always been a Fender guy. More than anything, I was just perplexed at how much of a big, tight low end the Galaxie delivered. I was used to hitting low notes and expecting less definition and more flub, it was just part of the sound I was accustomed to. But with the Gal, the low end was HUGE and still very articulate.
Does anyone know how the Doc makes this happen? Is it some magic with the circuit (big transformers, etc.) or is it the speaker configuration (the one I played had two high-rated 10-inch speakers).
I've always wanted to build a super or bassman, and I would LOVE to unlock the Doc's secret to maintaining such a big, tight, articulate low end.
