During the speaker shoot out last night my Rx Jr started fluctuating on volume then began to make some nasty static sounds. I checked all of the obvious things: cables, different guitar, then started with the tubes. Swapped in the original 5y3...same problem, GT 84's for a known good set of JJ's....same problem. It ended up being the phase inverter in v3.
Question, how tight is the lowend supposed to be when the volume is up(OD on, 8+ volume, dimed Master Vol)? I'm getting more flabbiness than I was expecting. With the big iron, I didn't think that it was possible to flub out.

It might be the speaker. The other thing to try is turn the bass all the way down then turn it up just until you have what you want. The Jr. can put out a ton of bass!

That could be, it also could be the pickups in my strat(SD Twangbanger/69/69). I plugged in with a PRS CE24 and nearly all flab dissapeared. Now my strat is a thing of beauty clean and I've never really had a problem with gain before. Just have to dial it in different I guess.

After some additional checking of the tubes using my 18w, I was wrong with my original assessment of a bad PI 12ax7. One of the GT 84's was bad. When I went to pull them to swap to some Ei's that I had one 84 was much cooler than the other one. You know, I have yet to have any GT product last more than a month.....ever.
