I recently acquired a Dr Z Air Brake. For those of you not familiar with it, it's an attenuator. It allows you to dime your amp, lower the volume, but conserve both gain level and tone. Link to the video review of the Dr Z Air BrakeGear used for this video: David Thomas McNaught Single Junior Manlius pickups Dr Z Carmen Ghia head Dr Z 1x12 cab w/ Alnico Blue speaker ... and the airbrake!

I appreciate the video. Helpful for someone who lives nowhere near a dealer.
My favorite line - "I've never quite heard my Ghia sound like that, but I kinda like it!"

Thanks! I was hoping that it would help those who haven't tried one yet... and it's true, my Ghia is like a new amp all over again!

Doesn't it really feel like a new amp, when I got mine the speaker wasn't broken in, but once that happened the Airbrake sounded darn good.

DR.Z Wow, an answer from the Good Doctor himself, flattering TGP is funny, like that, but it doesn't mean that I will stop preaching the Z word over there... they don't have to like it, they just have to read it

Thanks for the demo. The Airbreak I had sure did not sound like yours on bedroom setting. It was all buzzy and distorted. Thinking back I may have been unclear about how to connect the airbreak and was hasty in my decision to return it. I know where the cables go in to the airbreak it self but was told after I returned it to try going in to the 8 ohm jack instead of the 4 ohm (I have a Stangray). I'm going to order another one and test it more in depth this time. Including a live gig test. I'd like a confirmation from Dr Z, as well, that its safe to put it in a different ohm jack.

That is a great demo of the awesome Ghia. Sweet tone and playing as well.

Thanks for the kind words! Mine doesn't buzzy at all, even on bedroom levels, so you should definitely try it again

Well, I ended up selling my air brake after all. Bottom line: while I like the tones it helped create at reasonable volume in my Ghia, I like the tones in the Mini Z better. So the Ghia will remain a Clean Tone machine for me moving forward. Still a fine product, though, and if I were to buy a higher wattage amp in the future, I would definitely consider buying another Air Brake.
