I've read this a couple of times. Is it true? Or is it a subjective perception? And while I'm at it, if you played both amps (stock) through the same cab (same speakers, obviously), which one would have the most clean headroom (considering the OD wasn't engaged on the RX)?
Thanks!

I doubt it. I have both, but haven't done a side-by-side with the same speakers. But, from the way I play them I think the Maz Jr is probably louder. Just looking at the specs, the Rx Jr is rated at 15W, while the Maz Jr is 18W. The Rx Jr is using a 5Y3 rectifier while the Maz Jr is using a GZ34.
One thing that may make people think the Rx Jr is louder is the voicing. I think a lot of people run their Maz Jr's cut knob pretty low. You can get closer to the Rx Jr voicing by cranking the cut knob.

Yeah...that's what got me. I knew the specs, but wondered if it was a "perceivable" volume. I dunno....just curious I guess.

Really.....wow! Do you have a Maz to do an actual live comparison? Would you say the Rx. has more headroom if all variables were the same (and the OD was not engaged)? Would you say it had more gain than the Maz with the OD engaged?

When I was looking at Maz Jr.'s before getting the Rx Jr. I remember folks saying the None Reverb Maz was louder than ones with it. I may be wrong on that, but you may want to throw that into the equation as well. Are you looking for verb?

Hey, man....I actually got a PM from someone reminding me about that. No, I have the NR Maz Jr., so I guess I'm a little louder.........BTW, if you cranked all the controls on the Maz Jr. "NR", and did the same on the Rx. (with the OD ON), would the Maz still be louder, considering there'd be a good bit more gain from the Rx. (again considering all other variables are the same)?
I know it sounds nit-picky....I'm just curious. I really don't care THAT much when it comes down to it because my Maz is plenty loud for what I use it for.

My impression is that the Maz is louder. But that impression is from a single evening playing out with both. I had the Maz Jr combo sitting on top of the 1x12 Convertible with the V30 in it. I had the RXJr connected to the V30 below the Maz. When I used the A/B to switch to the RXJr, I couldn't hear it. But there are mitigating circumstances: the speaker was below the Maz, meaning it was not "in my face" the way the Maz was, and the RXJr was set with much more saturation which as we all know reduces apparent volume. But I had the RX Jr wide open while the Maz had it's master at noon. I could hear the Maz very clearly but not the RXJr. I'd like to revisit that scenario with two changes: use the Celstion Alnico Gold instead of the V30, and put the speakers side by side instead of one on top of the other. Under those conditions I think they will be pretty close, volume-wise. I'll get my chance here in a couple weeks...

Heres my impression, and I am not as good as Steve!!! I seem to think the Rx Jr is louder than my Maz Jr i sold in place of it. I a/b'd them Could be the fresh tubes, but the Maz was not as loud as the Rx. I just loved the chime from mine.

NO. The Maz jr had the stock Z 10's in the combo. My Rx Jr has a 12" Blue in it. Simply glorious.
