So I've listened to the sound clips (thanks benttop and anyone else who's posted!) and I've played the heck out of my Mini; and I have a question. Since my Mini head is the only Z that I've been able to put some real time into, thats my only point of reference for Z overdrive but I'd like a little more volume and tweakability for gigging with. For those of you that have (or have at least played) both, how does the saturation of the Mini's overdrive tone compare to the RxJr? I know this is a very subjective area, but I really like the drive sounds I get out of the Mini with my Tele and would love it if I could get close with more volume and that Rx punch. I played an original Rx for about 15 minutes at GC last week, but with no attenuator in a little booth through a 2x12 cab there was no way I could get it loud enough to get a feel for the crunch.
Thanks!

I have a Mini-Z and I have the RxJr... The crunch factor of both amps is different. I have other Z Amps as well and I think the Ghia and the Maz Jr and the RxJr all have nice tube overdrive and cleans.
The Mini-Z is not what I'd call a "clean" amp in the Z realm and the other amps are able to crunch but not as much as the Mini Z.
I'd say you need to play an RxJr and a Maz Jr as the Master Volume may be what you need. You will also most likely need an overdrive pedal depending on how much crunch you like.
I think the RxJr is probably a good fit for you but, it all depends on what type of music, guitars and your playing style too.

I have never played a Mini Z so I'm really guessing here, but I have heard folks say they thought the Mazerati GT had a similar sound. Of course the Mazerati GT is a VERY loud amplifier - even with an Airbrake it is sure to be considerably louder than your Mini.

I've read comparisons between the Mini and the GT as well, but the drive that I really dig on the Mini is with the volume on my Tele wide open, and the volume on the amp around 2-3 o'clock; not really the super saturated drive you get with it dimed. A little more clean headroom (in addition to the extra output) would be nice too for the country/rock-ish stuff that I'd be mostly using it for with a Tele and Strat. The Mini is a great little amp but you're right bluzman; with the stock pups in my Tele it starts to get hair on the tone around 9 o'clock on the amps volume.

With the Rx Jr, you have the volume, boost, and master to work with to get all kinds of different sounds. I'm not sure if it will be exactly like the Mini's overdrive, but I don't think you would be disappointed. A Maz Jr NR is great, too, but I've really been enjoying my Rx Jr lately. If you're looking for someone to tell you not to get an Rx Jr - don't ask me!
Rx Jr == ;D ;D ;D

The master gives it a bazillion shades of saturation, and the Overdose complements all of that. It's a very flexible unit for both home and stage.

Don't forget the "Overdose" . It is like the best ovrdrive pedal. For $200 you could get a Holy Grail Plus and a Rat Distortion and be golden.
