Thought it was time for a new 6545 post. I'm so glad I held on to mine. Now that there's talk of a Stangray GT, I'm thinkin 2 switching heads (with 4 amp designs!) just may be the ticket for me! Imagine all those tones available in that small package!

My thoughts exactly. In fact, I have the 'Ray already and am in the process of purchasing a 6545 from a Forum member, but that Stang GT sounds really nice too. But what I'm really anxious for is the Z-Plex or Plex-Z or whatever it'll be called! I'm going to be curious to see how that model compares to the 65 side of the 6545.

thanks for the new 6545 post. Che' glad to see you've picked one up. I've been using my ray for close to a year while the 6545 quietly sat. I'd been using a 1x12 cab with a weber blue dog alnico plus countless other speaker experiments but the BD always goes back in. Anyway I picked up a Z 2x12 cab with celestion blues and swapped one blue for a weber alnico 50w silver bell. What a killer cab! My first Z was with a 2x12 Z cab with greenbacks and I missed that sound with my ghia. Back to the point, the 6545 sounds magical with the blue and silver bell. I bet it would sound even better with a g12H30. I know I've got to watch the volume with the blue in there but I always use an airbrake withe the 6545.

I've got a Celestion Gold and a 50 watt Silver Bell that I really like with the 6545 (and the GT, and the Stangray). I still use the airbrake though.
What's this Plex-Z? I guess I missed that one.

Played mine at church yesterday. I use a 2-12 closed back cab with Weber Alnico Thames speakers. A great sounding amp combo to be sure. I always use the airbrake with it as well. Really need it in a small / loud room like that .

yeah! Some activity in the 6545 area!
Looks like this will be my only Z for a while. KT45 side kept it in favor. That and if I changed my mind later, it'd be h*ll to find another like it.
Mine's setting on the bench waiting for a rebias/retube. Haven't had the time. Did give me the opportunity to finally look inside one of these delightful Z tone boxes - workmanship is outstanding!!

Does anybody have much experience running the 6545 through 2 or 4 greenbacks? What're your impressions?

Does anybody have much experience running the 6545 through 2 or 4 greenbacks? What're your impressions? I have a cab loaded with some Emminence made high power versions I've been dying to try with the 6545 - but the head's still scattered at the moment (cab over here, back grill over there, footswitch in that corner, chassis on the table in another corner, etc.). I did run it thru the 112 w/a chinese greenback (w/an attenuator) and it sounded wonderful - especially the KT side.

BTW, Daniel, when is the 6545 landing in Utah? Well, that's hard to say. I'm getting it from a forum brother in Canada, but our wonderful USPS told me that my simple little normal 1st class envelope containing payment might take 10 or more business days to get to NL. Then the seller says that the parcel will take possibly another 2 weeks or more to get back across the border. Sheesh, we're neighboring countries and it still takes forever for things to go back and forth. Needless to say, I'm gonna be chomping at the bit for a few weeks.

It's hard to imagine in this day and age, with 500-1000 channels going 24/7 in some markets, that the half dozen stations of my childhood would shut down entirely at 11 or 12PM. In my pre-teens in the Bay Area there was one (count 'em) channel that would run "The All-Night Movies with Gil Hile" (he had a local Pontiac dealership). When we kids would stay up all night on New Year's Eve that's all we had to do - watch the movies with Gil Hile - till midnight when we'd blow firecrackers off in neighbors' garages.

Che' Oh the waiting must be tough! It will be worth it and if it ain't check into a bias adjustment and ef86 for the 45 side. When at the z-fest all of the ef86s are now coming with at least two orange bands around them to keep vibrations to a minimum. I've never put the bands on my Ray or 6545;s ef86s but it's recommended. Besides that, you're an experienced ef86 user, i.e. ray - RX... The Z-Plex reference I believe is the 4 6v6 prototype that the good Doc had at Z-Fest. It has two input channel volumes one darker than the other (similar to jumping the inputs on old Marshalls) you can dial in a good mix for the channels. The amp really kick a$$ and has thunderous bottom. I was playing a GT/stang on the GT side dimed and Curt was killing me with sweet volume.

Yup. ;D I don't know that we had a 24/7 station where I grew up. NYE was definite cause for celebration - TV late, friends/family, and we got to stay up! I remember having only 5-7 stations. Test patterns/tones following the National Anthem at the end of the day's programming. An end to the day's programming. TVs with knobs and no remotes. Having the folks hollar at you if you turned the dial too fast changing channels to the cartoons Sat. morning. Always had a couple B&W sets in the house. How cool it was when HBO and MTV first debuted. WHoops, looks like a thread hijack in process... I'll stop. We'll now return you to your regularly scheduled " 6545 Love" programming... Thanks! Thanks Dan the 6545 thread needed some love. GG - Bring Jaye with ya and we'll put some pig on the barbie. I've no doubt that Tony can dish out fine BBQ as well as loud rawk. Back to the program. Daniel, I'm pulling for your 6545 safe and sound arrival soon. We're playing an outdoors party on the 4th. The ray will be sitting quietly as the 6545 is singing the national anthem loud and proud!
