I bought a Rx Jr recently and am enjoying it a lot. I got the head and it is going through an Avatar 1x12 cab, closed back with an Eminence Swamp Thang.
We practice in a small room I have the master way down and this thing is still loud. Man, 15 watts is plenty for anything I am going to be doing.
I'm thinking of another speaker for less efficiency so I could let the amp sing more. The choice is between a Reverend Alltone 12 (kind of an updated vintage Jensen) and a 100 watt Carvin BR12 British Series speaker (Celestion clone). Those are what I have lying around now.
I know the ultimate answer is to try both, but I would like any educated opinions as to which to try first.
It seems that Z amps use Celestions pretty consistently, so I am thinking the Carvin may be voiced better for the amp.
Or maybe I should just fiddle around with the controls more. I only get to play it one or two times a week. I may not have gotten it correctly dialed in yet.
Anyhow, I am happy to be on board. This forum was a fantastic resource for me while I was amp shopping.
I was looking for used Z's and just missed a Ghia then I remembered there is a local dealer (Legends Guitars) and I went there to check out my options. I was so impressed with the Rx Jr side by side with a Maz Sr combo it was clearly the one. The Maz was used and actually cheaper, but the RX had the sound.
I generally go the used route and let someone else take the hit, but between loving the amp, the warranty and wanting to give Legends my business, I took the plunge. I figure this amp will outlive me, so what the heck.
