Thanks Doc. Best part is that the Rx Jr I bought in 2008 (my oldest amp) still brings a smile to my face when I plug it in. Oh, and the new red-flamed maple faceplate Route 66 is great. Thanks to the shop for doing that one for me. Truly appreciated. Keith

one of these days I need to make the trek to "The Rock". I do tv voice over ads for Rogers NFLD and I talk about all these places and it would be cool to see them. It would also be cool to stop in for a visit and meet up in person!

Me and my daughter having lunch with Mick Taylor (Stones/John Mayall) when he was in Destin, Florda last year.
As you can see he's pretty excited! He was very cool, polite and humble. Told some great stories.

Finding this thread all over again and realizing I never added anything! For shame! Here, let me overdo it a bit! screen: smalltownsongs IRL: Kris Margiotta The late 80's version Playing PA RenFaire (fun storybook stage!) with The Josh Albright Band and my Telemaster (the one that got away) Fronting my band recently: Probably my fave pic of me, and I'm playing bass for goodness sakes!

Cool pic progression - from long hair, jeans, no shirts, and pointy guitars to short/no hair, shorts, and rounded "country" guitars! . Thanks for sharing!!

Ahhhh, Nakamichi was the best cassette deck ever made. The Dragon was in it's own catagory, just a step up from all the others. In the picture, you can't see two old Phase Linear 700B amps that are in a cab behind me. The only original parts in those amps are the power transformers, chassis, and meters. All new White Oak driver boards, filter caps, rectifiers, and drivers/output transistors. Plus DC protection that shuts down the outputs if DC is detected on the output line...they are so much better than new that it would blow your mind. I measured over 500 watts RMS into 8 ohms, flat from 10Hz to 30kHz. White Oak is a pretty well kept secret but what you do is get an old PL 700B, and then rebuild it ground up. You end up with world class solid state amps. Those two amps drive a pair of rebuilt Dahlquist DQ-10 speakers w/bi-amped subs, sounds really nice.
I love taking old stuff from that era and bringing it up to speed with today's components. We have so much better components now...back in the day, the output transistors that Phase Linear used were originally specified for automotive capacitive discharge ignition systems! They were the only ones that Bob Carver could find that stood up to the demands of his amps. And "Flame Linear" got it's bad nickname when people would run them at 4 ohms driving huge cabs for touring rock bands of the time. The outputs would overheat and short, sending around 70-80 volts DC to your speakers...with predictably bad results. If they'd put fans on them they might have done better...

Being in Canada we were exposed a slightly different mix of products. I remember back in the day that Nikko amps were the 'bang for the buck' go to amps. There was also Bryston in Canada (my main amps to this day are Bryston). I read a lot about Csrver amps but they never really made their way into my neck of the woods. Great stuff !

Me, my Z-Lux and Nash T-52 at the 50th (yes, you read that right) reunion of my high school band on Oct. 15, 2016. Stones, Beatles, Kinks, Yardbirds, Who, a bit of psychedelia (13th Floor Elevators, early Pink Floyd) and a nod to British blues. It was a wonderful evening.
