Yesterday afternoon, I had a gig in a rockin' blues type band that has a harp player. He has always used a Fender Champ with good results... however I decided to bring my Mini-Z head and a 1x12 just to see what it would sound like during the sound check. I thought the built-in attenuator would be cool. Anyways it didn't work well at all... feedback at all usable levels. I was wondering if it was due to the impedance of the harp mic? Yeah I know it's a guitar amp but so is the old champ. Just curious to see if there are any ideas out there as to how to make it work, as theoretically with the attenuator it should sound nicely driven and full. A buffer maybe?

My guess is that the Mini has a lot more drive/overdrive than the Champ and thats causing it to feedback. A lower gain preamp tube might give a little more clean headroom and help with the feedback problem.

Perhaps replace the 12ax7 with a 12ay7.

Maybe an EQ in front could tone down the highs, and mid highs. Also, the mic has alot to do with the tone, as well as the type of harp. Does his mic have it's own volume, maybe a volume pedal in front of the amp if not.
