Hi. I play my Ghia head through a Z best cab but wanted to hear your opinions of the Z 1x12 and 2x10 open or rear ported cabs with this amp. I know there is a thread about the combos and 1x12 vs. 2x10, but I wanted to see if similar views hold for the isolated 1x12 and 2x10 open back/ported cabs as compared to the Z best.

What kind of music are you playing? Hard to beat a 2x12 for rock music.
I like the Ghia through Z rear-ported 1x12 with a Vintage 30... If I'm running through a single speaker, either the V30 or H30 are my speaker of choice. The Ghia is voiced to work beautifully with a well-worn Vintage 30... one of the few amps that truly does make a Vintage 30 sound 'vintage.' Butchyagotta break 'em in! In fact, the Ghia is pretty low watt, so if you've got a higher powered amp, you might want to use that to punish the 60 watt Vintage 30 a bit to losen it up.

Playing mostly blues. I have it running through the Z best 2x12 with one vintage 30 and one celestion grerenback (from 1989). I yanked the original G12H30 and put it in my bluesbreaker along with a weber blue dog alnico 12" (nice sounding combo). I was planning on getting a Route 66 and using the Z best cab with it, which leaves me with getting a 2x10 cab or a 1x12 or 2x12 cab for the Ghia. I have a pair of old celestion vintage 10s which sound nice and could be wired for 4 ohms, but I haven't heard Z's 2x10 Ghia combo and on this forum everyone says that the new Z 10s are a nice match. Anyway, I just wanted to see what matched well with the Ghia and get your two cents worth before ordering a new cab from the good Dr or getting a mojotone empty cab and making it my self (for the 2x10) or going with the Z cab with a single vintage 30 (broken in of course!!!).

I have three cabinets that I use with my Ghia & Route 66. My favorite is a Z-best 2x12. The speakers are well broken in and the sound is awesome. For those occasions where portability or volume are considerations, I use a Bogner 1x12 cube with a Vintage 30. The cab and speaker are brand new, so it's just starting to get broken in. I'm very pleased with the sound to weight ratio of this cabinet. Finally, I just picked up a Dr Z 2x10 cabinet. I'm eager to break in those speakers to hear what it is capable of, but it seems to be a very nice compliment to my other cabs so far. Bottom line - I'm not giving up my Z-best any time soon.

For me and my gigs, edgy country, blues, classic/southern rock I prefer my Ghia through a 1x12 loaded w/a Vintage 30 with my Tele's. The Z Best is an awesome cab...but alas too much cab for me.
The Route 66/ Z-Best is a match made in heaven though.
