My social security number ends with 95. It might be a while before a check comes my way. It'll probably be about enough to fill my gas tank! What's the formula for how much it will be?

Will someone in the Dr.'s office super-duper please record some sound clips demonstrating the EZG-50's gain and reverb varieties? Wow.

Anyone care to speculate on Z's "take" on it?

GAS, and of the Z variety. Is this going to be the new standard look for Z's? I'm really liking it. Old and art deco, but still modern.

Any one care to verbalize the characteristics of Blackface sound? What well known recordings would demonstrate the sound? Anyone care to speculate on Z's "take" on it? kc When I think of the phrase "blackface sound" what first comes to mind for me is Ronnie Earl, Tommy Castro and SRV. Of course, Ronnie Earl and Tommy Castro are Fender Strat-cord-Fender BF amp where SRV had a lot of other things going on like Dumbles, Marshalls etc. along with his Super Reverbs and Vibroverbs. Still, "Lenny" is a pretty good Fender sound. Of course there's a zillion records out there with Twin Reverbs, Super Reverbs, etc. What is Z's take on it? As the owner of a Super Reverb I'll say that as great of a sound as it is, it's not perfect. The SR is very bright; too bright sometimes; you have to really watch the treble control. The bass starts farting out if you raise the bass control too high with the volume turned up. You really need to disconnect the tremolo as it loads down the circuit even when not in use. I'm guessing Z's take will be that the highs will be beautiful and non-harsh, the bass will be tight as h*ll and the midrange will be perfect. Also he's got a "pre" and "post" gain controls for further tweakability. Plus the reverb will be awesome "Z-verb" with both dwell and mix knobs; I'm sure the Doc put many hours into making it perfect.

Hey Doc,
Last time I heard Evan (Z-Fest '07) didn't it have an EF86 in the middle and a foot switchable boost that automatically lowered the reverb level? I noticed that in the new EZG-50 specs there's no EF86! Did I dream that?

When I think "Blackface" the definitive sound that comes to my mind is Riviera Paradise by SRV. Stevie used to play through a blackface vibroverb with a 15' and employ 2 x Ibanez ts808's but I think on that tune it was purely strat, cord and amp. Thats just me though and my opinion for what it's worth.

I grew up on blackface amps and they always make me think of a huge, round, bouncy low end with scooped mids and super "glassy" high end.
Like you guys have mentioned, the bass sometimes wabbles and it's sometimes difficult to tame the treble or to find a good eq balance. I'm sure that Dr. Z took care of those problems.
My only question about the amp is its gain. Although it does have pre and post controls, the 50 watts makes me think that it won't break up until it's REALLY loud. This is definitely characteristic of Twin Reverbs (my favorite blackface), but might not capture the cool vibe from lower-watt amps like the vibrolux reverb or the blackface deluxe.
Has anyone heard this amp? I think someone mentioned that it was played at Z-fest last year. Any clips? Please!!
