Even if it's for a limited run. The world needs an EL34-based Z.

Even if it's for a limited run. The world needs an EL34-based Z. If you want the Doc to bring these back for a bit you might have better luck if you do some of the gruntwork ..... Contact folks and start a sign up thread and when you hit 25 or so people that are committed to buy one then contact the Doc and Brent or the Doc can talk to the dealers who these 25 folks are most close to and perhaps a KT-45LE can be done. You'd have to check with the Doc but that is how the SRZ-65 came back for a limited run.

Why not let this thread be the sign-up sheet? C'mon guys, just 24 more signatures.... I'm signature # 1. I just played awhile on my 6545. My ears were made for EL34s.

I'll put down a deposit right now Doc. I'd much rather buy a new one and support Dr. Z amps than buy one on Fleabay for almost the price of a new one and not know "where it's been".
The KT-45 is the one amp I'm missing to complete my "short head" collection- I have the Z28, Route 66 and Delta 88!
Please make some KT-45s!!!!!!!

Yes ... even if it means givin' up something else in my collection cheers always, eh Joel edit: consider me to be #2 on the list. please and thank you Joel, One thing about the KT-45 as that it is an amp that will be very different than what you may already own Z wise .... The EL84 amps have some degree of overlap in various settings among various models and this is a great thing as they can be used for so many styles of music. The KT-45 is a tight strong grid biased amp that is very different from the cathode biased amps so has a great place in any arsenal. As a bit of a personal side observation - and please feel free to disagree with me here if you wish - for a single amp rig the KT-45 is one of most useful amps on the planet. Why? It can cover everything from small venues via settings of the tone controls higher and the volume lower to get those classic rock tones and it can be opened up for large outdoor shows and has a ton of level on tap. But even more importantly .... and this is where the disagreement from others may come in ... it is the most pedal friendly amp I know of .... Z or non-Z. It is capable of huge clean headroom but it's pentode front end does not squash or compress like a dual triode such as a 12AX7. The EF86 in this amp is not called upon to provide excessive gain and is implemented in a different way than the EF86 is used in amps such as a Vox AC/15, 65amps London or the other pentode based amps, the Stangray where it's implementation is like a Vox AC30/4, a Matchless DC-30, or the other EF86 front end amps that follow suit using a different path that most use. The Route 66, KT-45, Z-28 and Delta 88 use the pentode in the front end in a different manner. The KT-45 or Route 66 are a pedal users dream amp. The Z-28 is just as nice when it comes to pedals but if you need a bit more wattage and clean headroom either the Route 66 or KT-45 are the ticket for any size venue where a good strong amp is your requirement. The KT-45 can do those classic British tones but also cover the American tonal scene. As I have said before, it is an EL34 amp that can pull off 6L6 tones really well and these amps see a lot of duty with players that were Fender twin fans prior to discovering the KT-45. If you ever get to play a Vox AC50, one of the best amps of all time from my point of view, compare it to the KT-45. They can both do the same thing but the KT-45 has an even wider tonal envelope.

OK, I've been thinking of a second Z to compliment my Maz 38 Sr reverb. I decided I'm going to be patient until the right one comes along, and I'd like to get something that's clearly different than the Maz. Z-28, Mini, and Route 66 have all crossed my mind. If the Doc offered the KT-45 this might make up my mind for me, especially now that Myles has weighed in on the subject.
In a slightly different reality, I'd sign the petition right now. However, due to life circumstances I'm gonna have to be wishy-washy and just say a re-issue of the KT sounds like a cool idea.

Myles, thanks for the input. truly I find I am always learning something new when you post. that is very, very cool. and, when I said I'd move somethin' out of the collection ... I shoulda specified it would only be something from my non-Z inventory ... cheers always, eh Joel

Man, now I'm REALLY glad I bought my KT45. I can't wait to try it out. UPS says it will be at my house on Tuesday. If this happens I want one. Timing has been wrong finding a good one on the 'Bay and I'd much rather have a new one from Z himself.
Myles, would it be safe to run this amp with a pair of 25 watt Greenbacks in a Z-Best? I'm already thinkin' about which cab to put 'er with! Jason

It just so happens that I have a pair of Scumback M75 & M55 speakers in my Z-Best right now. I really like 'em with my Route 66 and was hoping that they could handle the KT-45. I've been quietly hoping and dreaming of the day Doc brought this amp back, even for a short run. I really want one

The amp has a bit more output flat out than the speaker capacity but that is only at certain settings for a brief period at best and there would be no problems or concerns. The ported Z-Best cab design also keeps speakers in check during transients better than an open back cab and almost as good as a closed back but does not have the constricted sound of a closed back at moderate levels.

Myles, you are just making this worse.... The more you talk the more I want one. Have you ever tried the KT-45 with some of the greenback clones or hemp cones? Although, with the slightly flat output of the amp that you mentioned, hemp cones may not be as good as paper.

BUT ... that is just my personal taste. The hemp speakers such as Tone Tubbys are not my thing. They never sound or feel as if they ever break in and always sound stiff and constricted to me. But once again ... that is my personal taste and lots of folks love them.
