through a bogner cube (1x12). I couldn't turn up past 9:00 without killing others in the store. overdrive like no other Z. i'd love to have one, but I may have to wait for the Ghia GT for volume reasons.
Tone seemed to only adjust highs unlike original's tone knob. Certainly useful though.

Yeah, you really need an Airbrake to tame the GT. Certainly worth taming though!

It must have been the black one 'cause I bought the blond they had The thing is crazy loud in that store, huh? You could have cranked that volume knob up as far as you wanted, it doesn't really get any louder. I didn't know that when I was in the store but I learned it soon after I got the amp home. It's a great amp... I can't wait to get some new tubes so I can use mine again (but that's another story) One thing I don't get is when folks says "the most gain from any Dr Z amp" ... hasn't anyone ever played a Galaxie? The Galaxie has way more gain than the GT - at least mine does. I've played through both amps back to back for a bud and fellow Z-nut and he agreed, the Gal has more gain. The GT is a killer amp though.

I've got a GT and used to own a Galaxie, and I think the amount of gain between the two is pretty close. That being said, they are voiced totally different. I never really bonded with the gain channel on the Galaxie like I have with my GT. To me, the Galaxie's gain is a little darker sounding with less articulation. The GT on the other hand has the most articulate high gain sound of any amp I've played. That's what got me hooked on it. I love the roar the GT gives but you can still hear every note in the chord, and it just sustains for days. Add to it the fact that you can roll back the guitar volume and get the nicest EL84 chime in one package, it's hard to beat the GT.
