Hi, again I am contemplating one of these, and want to know what kind of cleans I'm gonna get outta the GT. I like to dial in a fat rhythm sound with the GT and then use volume to control the gain. If I'm backed down to clean territory, does the clean stay punchy enough to do funk and chording stuff? How would you compare the overall sound / cleans to a Maz SR?
Thanks for any insight.

It probably depends a little on your guitar, but I'm finding it really can get very clean but punchy and with great tone when I roll the guitar down to around 3 to 5 on the volume knob. But when I roll it up, look out! I've been running the GT volume right at noon, which is pretty high gain, but it doesn't seem to lose its articulation in a band setting, so it's working really nice there. I just know there are some clean demonstrations on my gear page, but I don't have audio here at work, so I can't point you at a specific clip. But if you take a look over at www.gear.strayca.com/mazeratiGT.htm and start with the very last clip I think you'll find one with some cleans going on there. I'm actually very impressed with the ability of the GT to go as clean as it does, considering all the gain on tap. Very cool amp!

Gt has the ability to go from clean to high gain. The key is guitar volume as stated by benttop.

The GT's front end is *very* sensitive to pickup impedance and volume control changes. A swamp ash strat with a maple neck equipped with Fralin vintage pickups (or equivalent) will get pretty darn clean with the guitar's volume down around "3" and the GT's volume control at 9:30 or so.
Changing to a P-90 equipped guitar or humbucker will result in the sound being a little grittier at "3" on the guitar's volume control.
Note that on almost every other amp I own, turning down my guitar's volume control to "3" would result in a duller sound-how dull depends on whether the guitar in question has a "volume kit" installed on the volume pot. The GT maintains clarity and brilliance with any guitar with it's volume pot down near "3". It's pretty amazing.

Brandon, you are talking of a fat rhythm and clean sound. Don´t forget you need an airbrake for this loud beast. But the airbrake is a useful tool too. If you want a fat rhythm sound I would say tweak the volume knob on the GT to 9 or 9.30 (o`clock). Now you can tweak the volume knob of the guitar to change from crunch to a clean sound. Both sounds are fat. If you need a gainier rhythm sound for a song just tweak the volume knob on the amp to 10 o´clock or more. If you need a louder clean sound set the airbrake at click 2 or 1 (usually I play on click 4 in the practice room and probably on stage too) and turn the amp´s volume knob a bit under 9 o`clock. That clean sound will surprise you and as Steve (benttop) wrote it is similar to the Stangray. I can´t write anything about the MazSr as I don´t have any experience with this amp. But I have a MazJrNr and I like this amp too. Comparing the overall/clean sound I just can´t say the GT has a fatter overall sound and is very versatile. You don´t need any pedals to get fat lead sounds but you will need an airbrake. For more information send me a PM, Willi.

Sorry I made a mistake, uh those foreign languages. Correct is: Comparing the overall/clean sound I just can say the GT has a fatter overall sound............. Cheers, Willi.

It's hard for me to put the work "clean" in the same sentence as "Mazerati GT". When I plug into a GT, it's like flying an F-15. I'm strapped in and hanging on for dear life. The amp was designed for the thrill! And it delivers!

F-15, Ferrari...well said to both. Played one for the first time last tuesday to compare a Z-Best (2x12) and Z 1x12 conv. with a Gold. WOW! I went to the store to help my cousin make a decision on a cab to drive his RXES with, and I walked out lusting heavily after the GT and a Nash S-63 (the latter of which I'm buying). I guess it was bound to happen, everyone knows it's trouble walking in to a high-end music store. I keep having these daydreams about an angel on one shoulder and a devil on my other, except replace those characters with a GT and my Stangray. Intoxicating stuff.

yeah i saw that GT on BST, literally minutes after agreeing on a price for the Nash. The GT at the store is full price, but it's absolutely cherry and has that sweet 20th Anniversary badge on it. Maybe I'll win the lottery this week and have one of my own, along with a Route 66 and a couple Z-bests. Either that or get a 3rd job and leave myself very little time to play, let alone gig. Maybe someday!
