Wow - this is really a very cool amp. I got the chance to turn up a bit on Saturday night (Airbrake on -1 click, volume at noon), and holy moley, it really turned my head. I'm talking singing sustain for as long as I wanted to hold the note. I'm talking articulation despite heavy saturation. I'm talking that Duane Allman tone I have had in my head for years. I want to beef up the bottom end ever so slightly, so I'm thinking about a speaker change, but by and large, the GT is making my world go 'round right now. Yikes! It is somewhat disappointing - I love the tone search. How am I supposed to keep searching when I've found the best clean on the planet and the best overdriven tone on the planet as well?

That's funny!
I was thinking a Stang Ray and GT head on top of a 2x12 half open back cab with 2 Golds would be just about a perfect set up!

Funny you should mention.. . I was just using the 2 12 stang ray with blues and the gt with the z 4 10.. occasionally i would play them simultaneously sometimes with the ray clean and also withthe sparkle drive /keeley modded engaged so they were both raging and i could not stop ;D

This amp really annoys me. Everytime I think about another amp that would serve my purposes better, it goes, "uuuhhhh hhhuuummm"! ;D I wish it would leave me alone! ;D

i was hoping to use mine tonite at a gig but Weber has been really slow at sending my MiniMass and i can't locate another attenuator anywhere! anyways, the GT continues to impress me - this amp is ALIVE! i am using a Hamer Monaco III w/ Lollar P90s and the responsiveness of this rig to every nuance of the pick and vol knob is just incredible. BTW my EVM 12L in a Two Rock box is a pretty good sounding speaker but i really think the GT would shine with a 2-12 or (even better) 4-10. Even the mighty EV has a hard time keepin up with the GT (mine anyways). mike

I'm thinking a Z-Best might be the ticket for this amp.

You know, I was thinking about adding a Z-Best to run with the GT. Curious how that would sound. I've been really impressed so far running the GT into a single Gold. Rolling back the guitar volume really allows the amp to get a more Voxy flavor, with tons of chime and articulation. That's something I totally wasn't expecting with this amp. When Doc said it was extremely sensitive to the guitar volume and player touch, he wasn't kidding. This is probably the most responsive amp I've ever used, and that includes my other Z's.

I'm thinking a Z-Best might be the ticket for this amp. Ouch, I have a nice sounding Z-Best. Thanks for the Karma Steve, man I'd love to play this amp. I'm just too big a rock head not to try this thing. And Aj, your above post is just making things worse....WAY worse. I think I need to give the GT section the "la, la, la. not listening" treatment ;D

Steve, I'll give you a little help in your need for more tone search when it threatens to be done! I think if you are still wanting to beef up the bottom end in a little in the GT you really need a closed back cab with that baby! I was going to respond in the speaker for GT thread but it seems it is closed so I'll throw it in here. From my little and speculative understanding of the GT is is just sceaming for a closed back cab. I'm so jealous of your amps. The GT and Stangray must be one of the greatest dual amp rigs ever. Wonder if doc would build a Ray/GT sharing the powerstage? mmmm. I think my little Ulbrick 1-12 with the 35 watt Celestian Heritage custom speaker (V35) would be perfect for the GT as it is quite inefficient but lotsa tight bottom end. If it wasn't I'm sure the ZBest would more than suffice! ;D but that's gotta be gettin loud for small clubs! Gotta get me one of these babies.

I vacillate on the Z-Best - I just KNOW it would sound amazing, but I also know I just don't want to lug it around! I'm actually considering buying two cabs - a Z-Best AND a 1x12 convertible so I can have the best of both worlds.

I'm sure the convertable will do just fine. Just make sure it's closed! ;D Thumpa whumpa. Actually I'd like to know how the Gold sounds in a closed back. Everyone says an alnico has to be open but with the new convertables it's an easy experiment. I wonder how a 2-12 with greenies would sound?

Convertible has to come from the factory, but they had my Z-Best there:

Wow, that's a sweet match Steve. Be sure to let us know how the Zbest sounds with the GT now!
By the way, I love your Katherine H quote in your signature. My partner or SWMBO is an actor. I'm gonna have to use that one! ;D

I'm gonna have to use that one! ;D OMG - the Z-Best is exactly what the GT needed. With that big fat round bottom, and all the normal sweetness in the mids and highs, it is finally exactly what I was wanting sound-wise. Actually, more. I am very jazzed - and my fingers are very sore. I played more today than I have since November before I went on vacation. I still have to try my other amps on the Z-Best, but the GT has found its home, for sure.
